The full-time Vivarium Manager will support teaching, research, and outreach by managing the vivarium in the new Science Complex at Towson University.

The successful candidate will manage a recently completed, state-of-the-art vivarium facility in our new Science Complex. This position is one of five new staff positions to support research and teaching in our new building. As the first manager of this facility, this staff member would provide support for a diverse group of terrestrial and aquatic animals. Additional duties include developing standard operating procedures for safe and efficient facility operations, providing daily oversight of vivarium operations, ensuring regulatory compliance by coordinating with the IACUC and TU Environmental Health and Safety, and animal care. The Vivarium Manager is also responsible for regular monitoring and maintenance of equipment (e.g., aquaria, environmental controls, cage washer, etc.) including coordinating service checks or repairs with TU Facilities Management or outside vendors. This position will also assist in supervision of students caring for animals and may provide limited technical support for other building facilities that support teaching and research. Opportunities for professional development and on the job training will be provided.

• Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Biology, or related field.
• At least two years of experience working with animals in a research or educational setting.
• Candidates must be knowledgeable in the operation of an animal facility, including facility operations and equipment function.
• Candidates must also be able to work independently as well as collaboratively and effectively as part of a team and have excellent communication and organizational skills.

Preferred:

• Experience with managing automated building and facilities hardware/software (including aquaria, ventilated rodent cages, cage wash, temperature and light controls) and specialized husbandry procedures.
