Responsible primarily for the implementation and analysis of Chemical Hygiene Plan, Hazard Communication, and Hazardous /Universal Waste programs.
Assist the campus community with radiation safety, laboratory emergency preparedness, lab safety equipment maintenance evaluations, personal protective equipment (PPE), laser, and occupational health surveillance.
The specific duties will include, chemical safety management, laboratory safety compliance inspections, training, assessments, written program development, annual audits, building partnerships, emergency response, laboratory construction/renovation projects, laboratory incident/injury investigations, data analysis and regulatory reporting.
Minimum Experience / Education:
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a physical science, biological science, environmental science/engineering, occupational safety, industrial technology or related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
University Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in a physical science, biological science, environmental science/engineering, occupational safety, industrial technology or closely related science; and six years of progressive experience needed to perform the work required including two years in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Some positions may require specific certifications or licenses. Specific jobs will require additional minimum training and/or licensing upon selection.
Preferred Education Skills and Experience:
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in occupational safety and health, life science or related field.
Prefer a candidate with an advanced degree with relevant certifications and two to three years of progressive experience in chemical/laboratory safety in a public or academic setting.
Working knowledge of regulations and guidance documents such as OSHA and NIOSH.
Exercise sound judgment in applying and interpreting policies, procedures, and regulations.
Advanced knowledge and skills in the use of the Google Suite (Docs, Forms, Sheets, Slides, Meet) and the ability to gain proficiency in the use of IPads, air sampling equipment, and direct reading instruments.
