FACILITIES OPERATIONS MANAGER, Research Laboratory of Electronics (RLE), to manage small-to-medium-size construction projects, facilities operations, office/laboratory maintenance, and EHS compliance for over 200,000 sq/ft of laboratory/office/common space. Duties include managing renovations in conjunction with MIT Facilities; managing, planning, and overseeing office/laboratory reorganizations, cleanouts, and reconfigurations; project planning, scoping, and installing equipment, including gathering quotes, submitting work orders, generating POs, etc.; providing input into budget development and monitoring expenditures; acting as primary contact/liaison for repair and maintenance and campus construction projects and planned/emergency building system shutdowns; working with EHS coordinator to implement and maintain safety protocols in labs; providing input into the development of rules governing the use of spaces and communicating to users; developing process improvements; ensuring events are staffed, supervise,d and meet safety/security requirements; ensuring proper staff training; and other tasks as assigned.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: bachelor's degree; at least three years' experience supervising small construction projects within a commercial building envelope; familiarity with basic construction practices, including experience with framing, rough carpentry, finish and millwork, and painting; general knowledge of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems; ability to read, interpret, and analyze design documents, including blueprints, shop drawings, and sketches; ability to interact with subcontracted trades, coordinate projects, schedule and plan work, and keep projects on time and on budget; proficiency with PCs for email, reading schematics, manipulating simple spreadsheets, and creating documents; strong organizational, leadership, customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills; meticulous attention to detail; and ability to interact with staff at all levels and to work independently and as a member of a productive, collaborative, and goal-oriented team in a fast-paced and complex environment. Working conditions: ascending/descending stairs, ladders, and laboratory structures; maneuvering in tight spaces and complex laboratory layouts; working in locations with chemicals, solvents, and sensitive laboratory equipment; lifting and moving items. Personal protective may be required.
May be required to work occasional off-hour work for supervision of construction. In the event of an emergency may act as designated essential personnel. Flexible hours may be arranged with supervisor approval.
