Description
The Medical (Nurse) Case Manager for the on-duty injured worker will coordinate the proactive efforts of the Health and Medical team following an on-duty employee injury per established protocol to assist with the safe and efficient return to work or optimal alternatives.
Accountabilities
Serve as clinical resource, providing case management services for employee on-duty injuries. Provide follow-up services and referrals, and educate about railroad policies, processes, and programs.
Follows Health and Medical established nursing standards and protocols to effectively manage assigned caseload of injured workers to assist with timely return to work efforts.
Provide case management services for employee on-duty injuries/illnesses including follow-up and referrals, if needed.
Effectively communicates with the injured worker and all related entities, such as Operating Field Operations, Risk Management Representatives, and the appropriate Health and Medical team members.
Collaborates with the Vocational Case Managers on injured worker cases utilizing their expertise in managing the worker injured cases.regulatory testing and additional testing when requested by Health and Medical Services.
Assist with identifying, evaluating, and referring employees with medical restrictions to accommodations and support return to work services.
Assist Health and Medical Services senior management regarding a wide range of health services and activities.
Utilize analytical and critical thinking skills to draw conclusions based on documentation and evidence.
Provide support for work units on all issues related to health and medical services including accommodations, return to work, restricted duty, and transitional work.
Appropriately utilizes internal and external resources and referrals.
Documents all nursing activities accurately, concisely and timely.
Effective communication and multi-tasking in a high volume, team -orientated environment
Qualifications
Required
An Associate's degree in Nursing, or a higher-level degree in Nursing (Bachelor's, Master's, etc.)
Valid driver's license
Certified and/or licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state where located
Able to analyze and make appropriate nursing judgments and accurately document activities.
CCM required or obtained within 6 months of hire
Physical Requirements
While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee will spend extended hours in front of a computer screen
The person in this position frequently communicates with customers and coworkers in person or by telephone
