Hopkins Athletics is multidivisional department with 22 programs competing at the NCAA DIII level and two programs (men’s and women’s lacrosse) competing at the NCAA Division I level (BIG 10 Conference). The department also hosts a variety of robust recreational activities such as club sports, intramurals, and fitness programming.
In 2021, the Department completed a $27 million dollar renovation and expansion of the Ralph S. O’Connor Center for Recreation and Well-Being. This facility features all new state-of-the-art equipment for strength and cardiovascular training, expanded group exercise offerings, and mindfulness and meditation programming. The focus is on fostering holistic student health and a community of care. In addition, The Bill Starr Varsity Weight Room also underwent a complete renovation in 2021 by adding an additional 3,800 square feet of team and individual student-athlete training space. This investment includes all new training equipment, a nutrition fueling station, and the latest in performance technology.
The Hopkins Athletics Department seeks an innovative and forward-thinking Budget Analyst. This role must lead the processing, reconciliation and review of all departmental expenses. The individual will be the subject matter expert on procurement processes within the athletic department at Johns Hopkins University. Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage budget reconciliation and receipt depository for approximately 150 general and restricted fund centers.
- Direct office accounting services which includes training staff, managing casual employee, coordinating all aspects of purchase orders and payments to vendors, processing travel advances, reimbursements, and any other transaction items needed for the department.
- Generates informational budget reports, summaries and or financial statements and provide ad hoc analysis on a monthly basis for all budget owners within the athletic/recreation department.
- Assists with compiling data for annual federal compliance and NCAA reports.
- Manage internal control procedures and departmental policy revision as it relates to procurement, A/P and A/R.
- Create and provide training and communication to departmental staff regarding administrative budget procedures and policies.
- Assists with lacrosse and postseason ticket administration and post event reconciliation reporting.
- Maintains communication with vendors regarding payment processing, direct billing, purchasing procedures and payment discrepancies.
- Manage independent contractor/consultant contracts and service agreements as well as the implementation of any process changes proposed by internal audit and risk management related to these types of agreements.
- Review and elevate current departmental processes and make recommendations for improvements for automating and streamlining routine tasks.
- Uses various software applications such as spreadsheets/databases or presentation graphics packages to assemble, manipulate and/or format data for presentation to internal/external constituents.
- Assist Associate Athletic Director with projecting, modeling and making recommendations related to increasing or the creation of new revenue streams within the athletic department.
- Serve as liaison for H.S.A. quarterly finance meetings which includes preparing relevant budget analysis/reports and running, developing and implementing meeting agendas.
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or related field.
- Three years of experience with SAP or equivalent combination of financial/accounting experience.

- The Assistant Director of Business Operations is directly supervised by the Associate Athletic Director, Finance and Human Resources.

- The position will require work outside and in inclement weather.
- The position will be a full-time, fiscal year appointment, with evening and weekend work required throughout the year with those dates determined by a supervisor.
