The Key Populations Program within the Center for Public Health and Human Rights in the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health is looking for a highly motivated Research Program Assistant II to join on the following three projects, including focus on the Stigma Index Survey implemented by GNP+ and UNAIDS with support from FHI360 and JHU, and projects supporting USAID Key Populations activities across South Africa and Zambia.
The objectives of these projects involve collaboration with GNP+ on developing sampling strategies and analytic plans for planned stigma indices to be implemented by GNP+ and local implementers in West Africa, including Burkina Faso, Senegal Togo, Mali, Liberia, and Ghana; and to collaborate with UNAIDS and mPACT to incorporate the results of stigma‐ focused surveys for key populations through various approaches with a geographic scope including Burkina Faso, Senegal, Liberia, Togo, Mali, and Ghana into stigma data synthesis products accessible to all stakeholders. Specific to objectives under the portfolio of USAID/Southern Africa, this partnership involves studying the differential risks of onward HIV transmission among key populations in South Africa, providing the evidence needed for a more heterogeneous approach to HIV programming and better understanding of transmission risks among key populations in the country.
Additionally, analytic contributions including small area estimation approaches will be conducted to improve subnational estimates of key HIV parameters, which will be supported by systematic review, synthesis, and quality assessment activities of HIV‐related data, including data characterizing HIV prevalence, incidence, the HIV treatment cascade, stigma, violence, and population size estimation data in countries across West Africa, Central Africa, and Southern Africa.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include leading and conducting rigorous cross‐country, pooled analyses to characterize and test mediated associations between stigmas and HIV‐related outcomes in the context of intersectionality, as well as small area estimation and additional analyses across the portfolio of projects.
In addition to conducting rigorous analyses, the Research Program Assistant will also be responsible for liaising with students by leading analytical working groups, including MER indicator trainings and associated data request asks, and working with JHU faculty members to design and execute a wide variety of epidemiological methods and statistical analyses.
Moreover, responsibilities extend to dissemination in the form of first author contributions to peer‐reviewed manuscripts, conference abstracts and presentations, and potential for engaging in grant submissions, if interested.
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
High School Diploma/GED.
Two years of related experience.
Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.*
*JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior data management experience strongly preferred.
Prior collaborative research experience a plus.
Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Comfort working with a diverse team on projects related to human rights, historically marginalized populations, and sexual and gender diverse communities.
Experience working with HIV/AIDS implementation programs and/or program evaluation and data management is an asset.
Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills, including timely responsiveness.
Demonstrated self‐management with the ability to work on multiple tasks with short and/or competing deadlines.
Experience in scientific computing/programming and STATA, R, or SAS is necessary.
Experience with advanced analytic approaches including structural equation modeling, and exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position will not require supervisory responsibility, but the applicant should be comfortable working with a diverse team and will be expected to provide analytic support to graduate‐level students and team members completing data analyses.
