UC Berkeley's University Health Services (UHS) is a comprehensive college health service providing fully accredited, primary medical care, counseling and psychological services, and innovative health promotion programs for students, faculty, and staff. UHS provides on-campus medical care and coordinates supplemental needs for off-campus care through a network of community specialists and hospitals. UHS manages the student health insurance and workers' compensation insurance programs.
Approximately 65,000 visits occur annually including Primary Care, Urgent Care, Occupational Health and Specialty Clinics. Services are designed to minimize the impact of illness, emotional distress and injury on studies and work. The Social Services (SOS) unit offers short-term counseling, groups, case management and nutrition services to the campus student population. Counseling staff consists of social workers who provide compassionate specialty counseling on a range of specific and highly sensitive topics. Responsibilities
- Manages the work of professional mental health clinicians; ensures quality of services, hires, trains, evaluates and disciplines staff members in accordance with campus policies and procedures.
- Conducts regular clinical quality review of individual behavioral health providers for the purpose of improvement of core practice competencies.
- Develops cost-effective behavioral health staffing patterns within Primary Care to meet needs of patients and adherence to budget.
- Creates a cohesive, high-functioning team of behavioral health providers.
- Works to establish standards, policies and objectives of behavioral health services within Primary Care; communicates such standards, policies and objectives.
- In collaboration with the UHS Clinical Services Director, develops and monitors behavioral health operational and budget processes, staff FTE, finance, human resources and space planning.
- Designs new primary care behavioral health programs.
- Problem-solves barriers to implementation and operational issues.
- Coordinates implementation efforts that encourage client use of services.
- Evaluates effectiveness of the clinical behavioral health program.
- Reviews behavioral health program evaluation information and prepares clinic specific reports for distribution to all stakeholders on at least an annual basis.
- Participates in Quality Improvement and relevant clinical research projects as requested.
- Oversees the quality of care and adherence to protocol for behavioral health clinical services to include individual services and case management.
- Ensures that record keeping and clinical services are in regulatory compliance and meet accreditation standards.
- Keeps abreast of changes in legal and accreditation standards, developing, implementing and monitoring necessary changes in procedures and/or protocols.
- As a working manager, provides direct services to patients such as brief behavioral and cognitive behavioral interventions and psychoeducation; consults with primary care staff; identifies, refers and advocates for patients needing specialty mental health services; and coordinates care of patients as necessary.
- Attends primary care management meetings.
- Participates in community meetings and serves on clinical committees as requested.

Required Qualifications
- Strong knowledge associated with providing accurate psychological diagnoses, brief behavioral interventions and case management services to patients.
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations.
- Ability to apply policy knowledge to suggest improvements to potential regulatory issues.

Education - Master's in Social Work, Counseling Psychology, or doctorate in clinical psychology or counseling and/or equivalent training or experience.
Salary & Benefits
- This is a full-time (40 hours/week), career position, and eligible for full UC benefits.
- This is an exempt, monthly paid position. The annual salary is commensurate with experience within the range of $101,300.00 - $146,800.00.
