After entry-level training under the general supervision of a faculty investigator or laboratory supervisor the Research Technologist is responsible for independently performing molecular immunologic and cell culture experiments in a research laboratory and for contributing to general maintenance of the laboratory equipment and supplies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Follow established procedures or protocols and utilize aseptic technique to perform experiments associated with virology and immunology. These may include:
Perform various biological assays to explore mechanisms influencing viral outcome and infectivity: nucleic acid extraction gel electrophoresis real-time PCR ELISA cell culture transfection molecular cloning western blotting sequencing in vitro viral infection Luciferase assay etc.
Operate basic laboratory equipment: centrifuge pH meter analytical balance spectrophotometer microscope and/or utilize laminar flow hood. This person may also utilize sophisticated instrumentation such as flow cytometer thermal cycler plate washer/reader pipettes and luminometer. Maintains and makes minor adjustments to equipment e.g. calibrating alignment.
Collect organize and maintain accurate data records with excellent attention to detail. Operate lab computers for data entry.
Prepare solutions reagents and stains following standard laboratory formulas and procedures.
Monitor inventory of lab materials and supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or related field
Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred
Basic Microsoft Office Suite experience helpful
