Education and length of practice are considered through a formal pay-setting process to determine the final compensable salary (Base Pay + Market Pay) The VAMC in Lexington, Kentucky is recruiting for an Occupational Health Medical Director to serve as a full-time medical service physician. The position is accountable to the Chief of Medicine, for assuring the most effective delivery of state-of-the-art care by meeting or exceeding compliance standards. To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred Experience: Occupational Medicine Residency Program, Occupational Medicine and Environmental Residency, Occupational Medicine and Environmental Fellowship. Comprehensive knowledge of health promotion. disease prevention and injury prevention with .a minimum of three years of successful practice in Occupational Medicine. ["Duties include, but are not limited to: Manages and supervises all aspects of the Occupational Health Programs. Interprets VA guidance (Employee Occupational Health Guidebook) for the office of EOH and translates this information into practice guidelines. Participates effectively in team meetings and treatment planning conferences and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members in a manner that enhances coordination of comprehensive patient care. Supervises the EAP program, provides fitness for duty evaluations, supervises the EOH immunization program, supervises the Environmental Health Military Exposure program, develops and provides reports to the facilities Infection Control and Environment of Care Committees. Assures that protocols are up to date for all key employee health programs including but not limited to: needle stick management, immunizations, and TB screening. Evaluates occupational risk, on-going workplace hazards, unusual working environments, delays in recovery of function, or questions of potential risk to the public. Serves as a champion for facility employee flu immunization, prepares COVID 19 (OHRS) reports, and provides surveillance of (amongst others not here specified) the following programs asbestos exposure, TB exposure. Evaluates the medical care of employees at the Lexington VAHCS working in conjunction with Infectious Disease, Human Resources, and Safety as needed. Closely coordinates with Infectious Disease and national VA to champion employee health response to a pandemic. Provides pre-employment evaluations and examinations to assure that the applicant meets the functional requirements of the position. Provides annual examinations of employees who meet this requirement (police officers, utility systems operators, and employees who drive government vehicles (non COL). Ensures employees with blood-borne pathogen exposure receive appropriate and timely follow up. Assures that each employee presenting for work related care received quality medical care within the limits and resources of the clinic. Ensures medical care/evaluations are documented in the employees medical folder (EMF) in a timely manner. Employees are to be provided with a copy of their laboratory or radiology reports per policy guidelines. Provides examinations for Environment Health Military Exposure including Agent Orange Registry, Gulf War, Ionizing Radiation, and Airborne Hazards and Open Pit Burn Registry exams. Is compliant with medical center and outpatient clinic policies, rules and regulations, VA specific clinical guidelines and medical staff bylaws. Completes timely medical license renewal, credentials, and board certification requirements. Actively involved in performance improvement activities of the section. Participates in at least one hospital committee. Complies with established surrogacy for team members for approved leave and any unplanned absences. Participates in employee education on prevention, health and wellness as appropriate. Participates in educational offerings from VA Occupational Health (VACO) such as Occupational Health Grand Rounds. Basic Life Support (BLS) qualifications maintained as per policy for physicians.
