VOC NURSE (Occupational Health Licensed Vocational Nurse)Department Description
DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION Occupational Health Services Provides work-related preventive medicine and injury & illness prevention services as well as OSHA- and departmentally-mandated medical surveillance programs. Medical care is provided by physician's board certified in Occupational and Environmental Medicine. Additionally we offer physical therapy, laboratory, x-ray services.
JOB SUMMARYReporting to the Occupational Health Services (OHS) Practice Manager, Medical Director or their Designee the Occupational Health Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides a wide variety of patient care activities in support of clinic activity. This includes prioritizing and assisting in patient triage processing, preparation and assistance with patient examinations, administering medications, drawing blood, collecting and preparing laboratory tests, and patient education. Position requires initiative, able to prioritize critical demands and the ability to work in a team environment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT - This position is subject to pre-placement screening provided by Occupational Health Services.
- Pre-placement screening will consist of infection control testing that includes blood tests for TB screening and other infectious diseases and may include a physical exam, provided by Occupational Health Services, given at no charge to the applicant. This is done to meet Federal, State and University requirements.
- Position may, at times, require employee to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases are present. Employee is personally responsible for following safety guidelines/procedures. Requires signing a statement of understanding regarding confidential employee health records and may need to participate in medical surveillance programs as required.

QUALIFICATIONSRequired: - Valid California Licensed Vocational Nurse License without restriction
- American Heart Association (AHA) BLS CPR Certification
- Certification as a Licensed Vocational Nurse.
- Recent experience as a Licensed Vocational nurse in a busy occupational health clinic.
- Experience to document and complete patient history, perform physical examination, and coordinate health management of patients to clinic medical providers.
- Experience to perform office laboratory tests, collect specimens, initiate culturing of certain specimens and determine abnormalities in lab reports.
- Experience working with Practice Management Database and/or Electronic Medical Record system.
- Interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with a diverse group of individuals to secure and/or provide information to clarify situations and resolve problems.
- Knowledge of OSHA and Cal OSHA requirements and other state-of-the-art Occupational medical knowledge.
Preferred: - Knowledge of DMV/DOT Medical Examinations.
