We are seeking a Laboratory Technician who will work under the direction of Faculty Investigators and the Lead Laboratorian in a research laboratory performing analyses and tests on human blood and fluid specimens for virus vaccine and challenge trials.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

• Process Biological specimens including serum, PBMCs, nasal washes and other specimens from vaccine candidates. May participate in laboratory tests and/or experiments which may include tissue culture, ELISA and PCR.
• Autoclave to sterilize media and disinfect tissue culture waste before discarding in Biohazard bag.
• Maintain careful record keeping of sample information to update and maintain specimen database (including data entry, data cleaning, and basic aspects of data analysis).
• Maintain and monitor laboratory supplies.
• Carry out routine equipment maintenance and upkeep. Ensure laboratory efficiency by following set protocols for lab cleanliness, organization and safety regulations.
• Work cooperatively with all laboratory personnel in support of assigned laboratory duties.
• Perform miscellaneous related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

• High School Diploma/GED with some science coursework.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related field.
• Training Certificate from Technical Institute preferred.
• Certificate from Technical Institute or Internship experience preferred.

Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

• Strong organizational skills.
• Meticulous attention to details and deadlines.
• Knowledge of basic use of scientific methods, procedures, and techniques.
• Work performed is subject to precise measures of quantity and quality.
• Microsoft office suite, particularly, Work, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint.

Physical Requirements:

• Requires ability to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hands or arms for tasks such as pipetting and data entry.
• Required to stand or sit for an extended period of time.
• Requires occasionally lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 20 lbs.
• Requires occasionally pushing, pulling objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Requires foot travel within the JHMI campus, particularly between the clinic on Broadway Street and the laboratory on Wolfe Street.
• Requires travel to the inpatient unit on the Bayview campus.
