This position is responsible for facilitating the Department of Pathology and Research Imaging research operations through management of the department???s wet and dry spaces. Responsibilities include oversight of the Department???s space as well as its equipment to ensure a high functioning research environment.
The Research Operations Manager will liaise with Facilities, Environmental Health and Safety, General Services, Purchasing, other central departments, and research operations managers in other departments.?? This position will represent the Department of Pathology and Research Imaging on Institute-wide wet lab research operational committees.?? ????
The Research Operations Manager will report directly to the Department Administrator and will work closely with PIs and managers in the wet and dry lab locations across multiple buildings, as well as the department???s Business Office.

Responsible for the management, coordination, and oversight of the department???s physical space (conference rooms, office space, dry and wet laboratories).
Maintain floor plans and seating charts for all departmental space. Update and maintain Insite and Dollar Density applications.
Work with Department leadership on space assignments
Manage departmental space access and security
Develop and oversee emergency evacuation plans.
Work with departmental research administrators on purchasing, shipping, and receiving
As needed, proactively place work orders and follow-up on repair requests.
Participate in Departmental needs assessment, design, and planning for minor work requests and major renovations.
Implementation of renovations to dept facilities, e.g. offices, labs, and core facilities.
Coordinate access to and maintenance of departmental core facilities, e.g. warm rooms, cold rooms, autoclave/ wash rooms, imaging / graphics rooms, radioisotope rooms, tissue culture rooms, equipment rooms.
Coordinate lab and equipment moves including preparing new space
Oversee wet lab departure from DFCI: Obtain capital equipment inventory- instruct lab staff in the proper cleaning and labeling of this equipment as per Property Management Policies and Procedures Manual; coordinate approval for removal of equipment by departing faculty; coordinate reassignment to other labs for equipment to remain at DFCI; coordinate removal and disposal of obsolete equipment; coordinate chemical and radioactive materials disposal; arrange for lab cleaning and safety certification.
Submit and oversee the department???s capital equipment requests
Coordinate contract intake process with Purchasing Department
Create and maintain a database of department equipment to facilitate availability across the department, and to help evaluate capital equipment requests. Work with individual labs to maintain equipment lists including maintenance contracts and asset tags.
Manage shared equipment calendar, access, policies and maintenance
Negotiate service contracts and coordinate preventive maintenance of equipment
Collaborate with faculty and lab personnel to assess capital equipment and new technologies needs in the department and obtain quotes, specifications, etc.
Manage pkeep of equipment in individual labs (from vendor referrals to processing the work orders)
Bring vendors to the department to demonstrate and provide training to dept staff on new instrumentation.
Coordinate the delivery and installation of new equipment
Coordinate annual federal fixed asset review
Responsible for oversight of business equipment such as copiers, scanners, furniture, and data storage/shredders.
Work in collaboration with Department???s business office to ensure all dry lab business/kitchen equipment is maintained and cataloged.
Partner with DA to create policies and procedures on shared equipment, capital equipment, best practices etc.
Monitors DFCI CAMS (Critical Alarm Monitoring System) in the Department in collaboration with individual laboratories.
Ensure that Lab Safety and Radiation Safety Officers are assigned for each lab and that they understand their responsibilities.
Establish, with Laboratory Safety Officers, procedures for use of individual and core facilities that will allow monitoring for compliance with safe lab practice. (access codes, written procedures, etc)
Ensure that all Laboratory Safety Officers receive updated information and training as needed.
Ensures all wet lab staff are compliant with DFCI, NIH, and sponsor mandatory trainings.
Upkeep of Department equipment workbooks, CAMS backup lists, computer workbooks
Assist PI and lab supervisors with teaching, training, orientation, in-service and continuing education for laboratory staff.
Oversite of safety policies and procedures
Develop training plans and best practices for common lab tasks including tissue culture, waste disposal, fume hood use
Ensure clear corridors and supports safety office related to fire and biosafety risks
Supports radioactive materials monitoring and inventory documentation and coordinates monitoring equipment maintenance and calibration
Perform walk-through of the departments and core areas on a regular basis including with members of the Safety Office as needed to assess compliance with Institute Safety policies. Report variances from correct procedures to the Laboratory Safety Officer and/or safety office and/or DA / Independent Investigator as appropriate.

Experience in management of large research laboratory in the field of biological sciences, with 3-5 years of research management is required.??
Familiarity with cancer research laboratory operations including equipment maintenance, safety, compliance and record keeping
Self-motivated with exceptional organization skills, with demonstrated ability to multi-task to enable many concurrent projects in a complex, fast paced environment.??
Excellent quantitative, analytic, and problem solving skills to evaluate all aspects of a problem opportunity and make or facilitate appropriate and timely decisions.??
