The Life Safety Systems Technician will ensure the integrity and reliability of all Lehigh University's Life Safety Assets. Installs, programs, inspects and maintains life safety equipment and systems to include but not limited to, commercial fire alarm, sprinkler systems, portable fire extinguishers and kitchen hood suppression systems. 1. Inspect, tests and maintains Lehigh University's Life Safety Equipment and systems to ensure compliance with established standards *Inspects, tests building fire alarm systems and associated equipment using NFPA and local codes *Inspects, tests, maintains automation and/or manual fire alarm systems to include but not limited to examination, adjustment, calibration, parts replacement and cleaning of all systems and components * Participates in the inspection, maintenance and testing of automatic and/or manual, wet, dry and Pre-Action Sprinkler systems along with fire pumps and hydrants *Interpret system deficiencies and take appropriate corrective actions *Inspects and maintains building portable fire extinguishers to include but not limited to examination, adjustment, field part replacement and cleaning of all components and maintaining accurate documentation in accordance with OSHA, NFPA and Local Codes *Interact with Housing Services, Lehigh University Police, Environmental Health and Safety and other University Departments regarding life safety systems and concerns *Works directly with contractors on installations and repair work *Performs related duties as assigned
2. System Operations and Reliability *Update campus wide Keltron alarm monitoring server program as needed *Recognize and take appropriate action when system impairments and outages cannot be resolved in a timely manner *Works directly with contractors on installations and repair work *To be scheduled "On Call" for emergency service of all life safety systems after normal working hours and weekends *Analyze, troubleshoot system problems and prioritize problems and approaches completing timely repairs *Supervise and/or collaborate with contractors performing installations and/or repair work
3. Administration and Accountability of Life Safety Systems *Complete work orders in a timely manner *Comply with all local and national codes *Maintains detailed records *Performs related duties as assigned *Administers work permit and sprinkler red tag system when needed *Generate fire alarm inspection reports *Generate Keltron history reports

The duties of the position do not allow for a remote work option; the employee in this position will be required to work on campus where they can be fully accessible to the Lehigh community.
This position is considered Essential Services Staff; Essential Services Staff are required to report to campus and remain during inclement weather and other emergency situations; they are defined as those needed to deliver student services and maintain campus facilities, campus safety and security
This position is responsible for driving university-owned vehicles as a routine function, therefore a valid Driver’s License and a good driving record is required
Need to be flexible to accommodate outside contractor’s schedule and special tasks that need to be accomplished after normal business hours
Paid on call schedule
Will often need to climb or balance, stand, use hands to touch, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, walk, work near mechanical moving parts, exposed to extreme non-weather heat, wet or humid non-weather conditions, subject to electrical hazards, work hazards and fumes or air born particles and lift up to 10-50 pounds
Qualifications
Associates or Vocational/Technical degree in Electronics or Mechanics or equivalent combination of education and experience
Fire Alarms/Sprinkler Systems Certification/Training required
One to three years related work experience
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, time management and sound judgment
Proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and a high degree of initiative for bringing tasks to completion
Solid analytical, decision making and problem-solving skills
Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and credit history based upon the requirements of the position
