Under general direction, the Pool & Fitness Center Manager oversees the daily operation, maintenance, and administration of the city aquatic and fitness facility. Manages the hiring, training, testing, and certification of employees and contract workers of the facility, implements various aquatic programs, coordinates and coaches swim team, and monitors that all appropriate water health and safety standards are maintained.
Oversees and coordinates the recruitment, training, scheduling, certification, and performance of lifeguards and instructors working in the facility.
Supports, manages, and coordinates lifeguard and instructor scheduling, membership management, responding to patron requests, and ensuring pool chemical balance and cleanliness; develop and maintain front desk control systems, inventory and registration processes.
Develops program and ensures that all appropriate water, environmental, health and safety standards are maintained; order supplies as needed to ensure safety.
Develops, implements, and oversees a variety of aquatics programs for students, faculty, staff, and/or members of the public; maintains Instructor certification and teaches aquatic and safety certification training sessions, as necessary.
Gathers bids, compiles quotes, and manages projects and various maintenance or other work; communicate with contractors through bid process, manage project work and closures, and facilitate invoice payment.
Prepares statistical reports on a monthly basis and prepares data and narrative for inclusion in annual reports; submits reports for customer refunds, general sales, weekly invoices, monthly KPIs, and other financial updates.
Develops and enforces all rules, regulations and policies of the City of Manitou Pool & Fitness Department; assists in the pre-season readiness and post-season winterizing of the outdoor pools.
Leads, manages, and serves as head coach for the swim team; coordinate communications, scheduling, coaching on deck, workout preparation, account management, billing, and mentoring athletes; sets training goals and objectives for teams as well as individual swimmers.
Ensuring the pool or training area is clean, well-maintained, and free of hazards.
Scouting swimmers and preparing teams and individuals for swim meets.
Assist in enforcing pool rules including those related to animals, alcohol, and public swimming issues as required by the State Health Department.
Participates in the daily upkeep of facilities and grounds; assists with backwashing and pool/spa cleaning program.
Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
4 years of college or equivalent experience.
Minimum of 5 years’ aquatics experience, including instructor level certifications from recognized water safety organizations (American Red Cross, Star Fish Aquatics Institute (SAI), YMCA, Ellis & Associates) and demonstrated supervisory experience. Knowledge of pool chemistry balance and maintenance as well as using swimming pool machinery and equipment.
Certifications and/or licensures: Lifeguarding, and either CPO or AFO certifications. CPR for Professionals, First Aid, Swim America, Water Safety Instructor and/or SAI. Instructor level certification required for lifeguard training and SAI swim lessons. Swim coach level experience and certification with USA Swimming or equivalent. Obtain Instructor Trainer certification within one year. Relevant license or certification may be required (USA Swimming coach license requirements).
The Manitou Springs Parks, Recreation, Open Space & Trails Department’s staff works tirelessly to achieve its mission to build community. The department serves an active community of just over 5,000 residents who can select from a variety of recreational activities throughout our community.
The Parks, Open Space & Trails Division is responsible for the operation and maintenance of 18 different sites, including 13 parks and City land surrounding five mineral springs, as well as our urban forest, and the Crystal Valley Cemetery. The parks system includes 30 acres, ranging from pocket parks to the larger parks adjacent to Fountain Creek. In addition, this Division maintains an inventory of over 300 acres of open space as well as over six miles of trails. Just a few of the amenities in our parks system include a basketball court, outdoor tennis/pickleball courts, a skate park, two pavilions, a labyrinth and a variety of playgrounds as well as multi-use turf fields.
The Recreation Division facilitates a variety of activities and special events designed to promote a healthy lifestyle for all ages and abilities. These include youth sports, instructional programs, drop-in activities,... community events in our parks, as well as a number of long-standing special events such as the Pikes Peak Marathon, Commonwheel Art Festival, Wine Festival, and Coffin Races.
The Pool & Fitness Center is located within Schryver Park. The facility began operations in 1970 and is well loved by the community. The entire facility occupies approximately 10,619 sq ft indoors. It includes a 5-lane 25 meter lap pool, indoor hot tub, indoor multi-purpose room, outdoor adult spa, outdoor kiddie pool area and an indoor weight room. The Pool & Fitness Center is also home to the Colorado Torpedoes Swim Team.
