We are seeking a Laboratory Coordinator, Translational Research Central Center who will be responsible for supporting the daily TRCS activities. The primary role is working directly with disease group research nurses to coordinate the attendance, procurement, documentation and timely distribution of research biopsies collected within surgical units from patients enrolled in clinical trials of the Johns Hopkins Sydney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center (SKCCC). Other responsibilities include preparation and distribution of study kits used for research patients on clinical trials that are support by Central Kit Services (CKS), and shipping/transport of blood, tissue, biopsies to internal or external laboratories collected for the Cell Therapy Laboratory (CTL). The TRCS Coordinator will be expected to independently perform biopsy and transport/shipping duties compliant with manufacturer's instruction or protocol requirements and may be required to assist in several other service areas within Oncology Center Support Services as needed.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

• Coordinates research biopsy collections by working directly with SKCCC disease group research nurses. Specifically, the activity for this role involves:
• Understanding the trial-specific requirements for research biopsies collections
• Completing biopsy documentation and chain-of-custody forms
• Separating and preserving collected biopsies according to protocol
• Attending the procedure to provide guidance to the biopsy physician to ensure correct tissue specimens are procured to meet study compliance
• Retrieving biopsy specimens for further processing and/or shipping to other internal or external tissue processing laboratories
• Managing inventories of biopsy supplies and shipping materials
• Performing data collection, database entry and accurate record keeping of study related information
• Perform routine CKS activities including study kit inventory management, study kit preparation and delivery to OPD clinical locations.

• Performs CTL shipping/transport of blood, tissue, biopsies, etc., to internal (Johns Hopkins) laboratories or to external sites according to manufacturer's instruction or protocol requirements.
• These shipping/transport activities may involve one or all the following:
• Requesting commercial or protocol-specific shipping supplies to be sent for scheduled collections
• Coordinating with collection center team to be available for collected biologic material that require shipping activities.
• On-site preparation of shipping containers and completion of shipping way-bills/requisitions at the collection center
• Label verification applied to collected biologic material and labels on shipping containers
• Activation of temperature monitors
• Following commercial or protocol-specific packaging requirements
• Arranging, meeting, and/or confirming successful courier/shipper pick-up
• Tracking of shipped biologic materials to their destinations
• Completion of shipping notifications or Chain-of-Custody documentation
• Accessing online database to acknowledge biologic material receipt or shipping activities

• Completes training and competency for biopsy services, ship procedures and other applicable activities.
• Attends training sessions for commercial and protocol-specific shipping requirements of biologic material.
• Maintains current JHU compliance and training requirements, certifications such as DOT/IATA Dangerous Good Shipping Certification.
• Has the ability to accommodate a fast-paced clinical laboratory schedule.
• Follows Good Laboratory Practices.
• Must have proficiency using Microsoft Office products.
• Other duties as assigned by the CKS Operations Director or TRCS Director

• High School Diploma or graduation equivalent and some college coursework in the Biological Sciences.
• One year of related laboratory experience.
• Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

• Bachelor's Degree preferred.
• Prefer additional experience working in a lab environment.
  

• Experience with shipping specimens and DOT/IATA Dangerous Good Shipping Certification preferred.
