The City of Durham NC is seeking a Director of Solid Waste Management. The City of Durham Solid Waste Management Department is responsible for the collection and processing of residential solid waste, recycling, bulky items, and subscriber-based yard waste services. The Solid Waste Management Department is organized around the following four divisions: Administration & Finance, Curbside Collection Services, Waste Disposal & Recycling and Code Enforcement & Site Plan Review.
The Director of Solid Waste Management plans, organizes, directs, and manages the activities of the City of Durham's Solid Waste Management Department. This is accomplished by developing and implementing plans for operations, consulting with solid waste personnel, developing and implementing program goals and objectives, managing the departmental budget, conducting employee performance evaluations, and managing requests for proposals and bid proposals for departmental projects. The Director manages and monitors the work performance of the Department, including evaluating program/work objectives and effectiveness, establishing broad organizational goals, and realigning work and staffing assignments for the department.
The qualified candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Seven or more years of related experience in solid waste management and general business management skills are also necessary.
