The Division of Pediatric Hematology seeks a Clinical Nursewho will support Pediatric Hematologists and Nurse Practitioners with their outpatient clinical duties at Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Johns Hopkins Outpatient Clinic in the David Rubenstein Child Health Building. The Clinical Nurse provides and coordinates care to patients according to Hopkins vision and mission and activates resources from all disciplines and collaborates to achieve outcomes for patients and functional units (social work, Home Health, etc.). This individual assists the provider by taking patient history, blood pressure and pulse, give injections, develops, implements, and modifies patient teaching. Assists MDs with office procedures, provide patient triage per protocol and other miscellaneous duties assigned.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Willingness and ability to interact empathically with our patient populations and serve as a patient advocate and liaison with the treatment teams.
Reviews physician EPIC-in-baskets on a daily basis, triaging appropriately.
Pends new medications and prescription refills in EPIC for advanced practitioner and physician signature.
Assists with ordering patient lab and study tests as needed, and routing orders in EPIC to advanced practitioners and physicians for their co-signature.
Works with hematology scheduling team to help schedule tests as needed.
Assists in completion of prior authorizations.
Follows up on lab and study test results, notifying the physician and patient as appropriate.
Triages and answers patient calls, and calls in prescriptions under the direction of a advanced practitioner or physician order.
Ensures patient advanced practitioners and physician calls are returned in a timely manner, and all patient interactions are documented appropriately in EPIC, or as specified.
Answers questions from patients regarding advanced practitioner and physician instructions, medications, prescription refills, and/or other aspects of clinical care.
Returns patient phone calls and responds to appropriate EPIC in-basket questions.
Prepares advanced practitioners and physicians for outpatient clinic appointments including obtaining detailed medical records for patients with complex medical histories and ensuring records are scanned into ePIC.
Populates patient history in EPIC prior to appointments.
Performs preliminary medication reconciliation in EPIC.
Generates patient problem lists as requested by advanced practitioners and physicians.
Is aware of the inclusion/exclusion criteria for ongoing clinical trials to help identify possible research candidates.
Assist in the clinic by attending clinic with physicians and advanced practitioners, obtain/update history and interim concerns from patients, and help document patient clinic encounters in EPIC.
Practices nursing per clinical protocols and under the nursing scope of practice for the State of Maryland. May perform case management services to patients from initial intake visit through termination of services.

Minimum Qualifications
Individual must be a Registered Nurse, licensed in the State of Maryland or state where practicing.
Preferred Qualifications
At least one year working in a hematology or pediatric environment strongly preferred.
Bachelor's Degree in nursing or related discipline preferred.
