RESEARCH SPECIALIST-FLOW CYTOMETRY CORE FACILITY, Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research, to provide support for over 160 groups engaged in cancer and other research across MIT. Responsibilities include operating and maintaining flow cytometers, including daily quality control and data management; engaging with researchers to design experiments, training in instrument use and supporting scheduling needs; performing complex tasks such as troubleshooting instrumentation, liaising with service providers, and data analysis; managing some laboratory resources; training other team members to perform specific tasks; collaborating with team members on problem-solving and technical and administrative tasks; sharing relevant information with those impacted by decisions or instrument downtime; communicating and training others on lab/departmental policies and ensuring compliance; maintaining a clean and safe work area; recognizing situations that are without precedent and finding solutions using a systematic approach; and performing additional duties as necessary. May serve as facility EHS representative.

Job Requirements REQUIRED: B.S. degree in biological or physical sciences; four years of experience in a research laboratory environment; ability to work both independently and as part of a team; strong instrumentation skills; demonstrated attention to detail; self-motivation; excellent organizational, analytical, customer service, interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills; and an understanding of laboratory safety. PREFERRED: master's degree; supervisory or management experience; experience with laboratory data management software; experience with flow cytometry instrumentation; and experience training individuals from diverse scientific/technical backgrounds.
