The main duty of this position is as the Laboratory Technician for a laboratory focused on the classification and characterization of human tumors through the study of gene expression patterns, tumor DNA copy number changes, and DNA somatic mutations identified using RNA and DNA-sequencing. This individual is a key contributor to multiple large ongoing cell line and animal model-based studies, as well as having several additional responsibilities. They will be responsible for guiding the day-to-day operations of an active cell tissue culture lab resource and may also assist with animal models experiments as well. They will prepare reports and will serve as co-author on publications. This individual will serve as the primary staff member for intensive cell tissue culture experiments. They will be required to grow and maintain cell lines, perform treatments on cells, and to make RNAs and/ DNAs for genomic analyses. The individual will also be involved in mouse models experiments. This individual will also manage the cell tissue culture room and will be responsible for maintaining our cell line repository, growing of multiple cell lines and maintaining stocks, ordering of reagents for tissue culture, oversee and write lab reports and oversight of others who use the tissue culture room. They will work closely the Lab Manager and UNCEHS to develop and maintain the Lab Safety Plan. Sound judgment is a critical aspect of this position as their decision consequences will have profound impact on multiple research and grant funding projects.
