IT@JH Networking, Telecom and Data Center is seeking a Network Technician who will support the Johns Hopkins University and Enterprise Telecom needs. This position is required to deliver high quality Hopkins telephone service to Hopkins University staff and call centers throughout the Hopkins footprint.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Configures voice service via the Avaya Communications Manager PBX. This includes software support and the ability to install/connect devices onto the PBX.
Supports individual devices as well as complicated Call Centers, supporting both VOIP SIP and digital phone devices.
Required to work with cabling folks as well as Johns Hopkins Data Networking engineers to provide voice services.
Specific Devices, Software, Projects
The Network Technician will install the following devices.
2400 series phones, 9600 series phones, J series phones.
Supports over 100,000 end devices throughout Johns Hopkins.
Services will be delivered to staff, Call Centers, security, and other supporting services such as Blue Light Emergency phones and alarms.
Scale/Size of Area, Project and/or System Supported
Supports 20,000 users at Johns Hopkins University and over 100,000 users throughout the Johns Hopkins Enterprise.
Manages telephone systems throughout the Johns Hopkins Enterprise, at this time there are 8 systems.
At this time there is no on-call requirement. However, there may be times when a call out is necessary to correct phone issues.

AVST Voice Mail System.
VOIP SIP Avaya series phones.
Valid Driver's license to drive Hopkins company vehicles.
Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications
Avaya certifications would be preferred but not necessary.
Technician skills will be accessed during interview.
Walk between buildings.
Drive between campuses in the Baltimore/Washington, DC area.
Lift 50 pounds.
Climb and handle ladders.
Install jack and hardware.
Must be able to distinguish between the 5 major and 5 minor colors in the 25-Pair Color Code.
Homewood, however may find it necessary to report to another Johns Hopkins location to resolve needs of the business.
High School Diploma/GED.
Two years of related experience. Additional education may substitute for experience.
5 years of Telecom experience.
Valid driver's license.
