Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures (JHTV) supports the commercialization of university technology through technology licensing, the development of corporate research collaborations, and venture creation.
Corporate Partnerships at JHTV is the university's front door for corporate partners seeking academic collaboration. Corporate Partnerships shepherd both university faculty and external partners towards establishment of research collaboration and provide support through the life cycle of the relationships.
We are seeking an Associate Director, Corporate Partnerships, Life Sciences. Reporting to the Senior Director, Corporate Partnerships, the Associate Director serves as a liaison between Johns Hopkins faculty and corporate partners in support of university research collaborations. Other duties include supporting inbound and outbound business development efforts for new opportunity creation and expansion of existing corporate relationships.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Alliance and Relationship Management (60%)
Manages industry collaborations and agreements including overseeing deliverables and maintaining partnerships.
Administers matters relating to managed collaborations including coordination of committee meetings, ensuring compliance with all aspects of the alliance agreements, and overseeing the completion of any required third-party agreements involved to support the research.
Administers matters relating to the RFPs (Request for Proposals) for projects and research programs, once launched.
Oversees meetings, workshops, conferences between faculty and the partners.
Actively captures corporate partners' priority areas and scientific interest and converts them to new opportunities.
Business Development (40%)
Sources technologies and research programs to be presented as potential research projects for industry collaborations.
Develops programming for business development events and organizing visits by industry partners.
Identifies companies with potential interest in collaborating with faculty and performs research to identify the individuals in each company whom we should approach.
Maintains records of industry engagement in customer relational database.
Works with faculty in preparation of slides for meetings with potential industry partners.
May direct the activities of staff or student interns or a function.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's Degree in a life or physical science or MBA with an undergraduate degree in science.
Five (5) years working with academic faculty or working in industry in a similar function, as evidenced by management of a large partnership.
Preferred Qualifications
U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident required due to Federal Export Controls.
Other advanced degrees or combinations with directly related industry experience will also be considered.
Business development experience preferred.

A self-starter and team player with the ability to interact with all levels within the university and with industry.
Must have an excellent, professional rapport, exceptional oral and written communication skills and a strong customer service orientation.
Must be able to deal tactfully and professionally with others in stressful situations.
Must be well organized, detail-oriented, and have the ability to perform and manage multiple projects at a time meeting concurrent deadlines.
Must be deadline-driven and able to handle flexible hours, including some weeknight work for hosting events or dinners.
Must be able to work competently with Microsoft Office and other desktop applications. Experience with Salesforce or other CRM systems is a plus.
Experience with various software applications (e.g. spreadsheets, relational databases, statistical and graphic packages), to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or reports.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination.
