The Department of Population, Family, and Reproductive Health in the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University is seeking a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Coordinator to join the WIC Program.
The Breastfeeding Peer Counselor is responsible for the administration of the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program at the Local Agency level. The average workday engagement consists of 95% computer related work and 5% adult and infant scales activity.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Assist in establishing program goals and objectives by assisting in the development of the annual Breastfeeding Service Plan.
Plan, schedule, and coordinate Peer Counselor activities and national breastfeeding month activities.
Evaluate performance of Peer Counselors bi-annually; conduct bi-monthly meetings with counselors.
Participate in recruitment and hiring of Peer Counselors.
Arrange and assist in training and continuing education of Peer Counselors in accordance with State and Local Agency policies.
Mentor Peer Counselors providing routine follow-up and guidance, including close supervision during the first 6 months.
Oversee and maintain the Local Agencies Breast Pump inventory in the State WIC computer system.
Attend all state related Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Coordinator/promotion committee meetings.
Review and order breastfeeding materials from the state distribution center.
Provide counseling to prenatal and breastfeeding participants and their babies.
Assist with other duties as assigned by the Local Agency Coordinator or Senior Nutritionist Manager.
Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Demonstrated expertise and knowledge in breastfeeding education, management, and supported.
Knowledge of basic nutrition education.
Must be flexible and willing to travel to various locations.
Excellent written/verbal communication skills.
Excellent computer skills.
Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
Two years related experience.
Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Credentials of an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), or have other certification in lactation management (CLE, CLC), or State approved training in lactation management.
Demonstrated experience in working effectively with low-income, multi-cultural populations and the public.
Prior WIC experience.
Fluent in Spanish.
1 year experience counseling breastfeeding women.
Prior supervisory experience .

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
