The Lab Safety Specialist Associate in consultation with the Associate Dean, Department Chair, CAS Laboratory Manager and CAS Safety Committee, will act as a safety liaison between CIT and CAS to help disseminate and regulate safety and environmental policies and information. This position will report directly to the CAS Laboratory Manager.
Act as a safety liaison between the CIT and CAS academic and research operations and UM Flint EHS.
In consultation with the CAS Laboratory Manager, Associate Dean and Department Chair develop and monitor CAS lab policies and procedures.
Serve as Chemical Hygiene Officer for CIT and CAS departments.
Provide guidance so that the department can remain compliant with local, state, and federal regulations for handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
Advise faculty and staff on the proper inventory controls, labeling, handling, storage and preparations for disposal of hazardous materials.
Act as emergency contact for representative departments.
Oversee lab and safety training for research students and lab assistants.
Maintain and update safety manuals.
Liaison to CAS safety committee.
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline
1 or more years of relevant professional experience
Working knowledge of local, state, and federal safety regulations
