(Job #522003) Instructional Support Technician II, Stockroom Coordinator, Hiring Range: $4,180-$4598 per month. Appointments are typically made at the beginning of the salary range. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a full-time, benefited, non-exempt, 12-month pay plan permanent position with a one-year probationary period in the Forestry, Wildlife, and Fisheries departments. Position Summary: Under the lead direction of the Chairs of Fisheries Biology, Forestry, and Wildlife, and general direction of the Dean of the College of Natural Resources and Sciences, the Instructional Support Technician II (ISTII) supports the teaching and research enterprise of students, staff, and faculty in Fisheries Biology, Forestry, and Wildlife, and related programs in the College of Natural Resources and Sciences. The ISTII is responsible for the coordination of the Wildlife and Fisheries Building Stockroom and Forestry Stockroom, and provides assistance to the Fish Hatchery, Wildlife Game Pens, Forestry Greenhouse, Wood Shop, and Boat Storage Facility. The ISTII may also design and fabricate items needed for teaching and research.
Key Responsibilities:
35% Inventory and checkout of stockroom equipment and supplies a. Provides access to scientific equipment and expendable supplies to students and faculty b. Maintains inventories of stockroom equipment and supplies c. Maintains check out records and notify students of late, lost or damaged equipment, and provides replacement instructions d. Assures security and readiness of stockroom equipment inventory e. Coordinate student assistants assigned to support the stockroom
20% Equipment Maintenance and Repair a. Performs general maintenance, refurbishing, repair, and calibration on every item in inventory, ranging from basic equipment to technical equipment b. Troubleshoots and assesses problems with specialized equipment c. Coordinates with equipment technicians or outside vendors to complete repairs
15% Purchasing a. Purchase equipment, expendable supplies, and software for research and teaching b. Contacts vendors and obtain quotes c. Makes purchases using purchase orders or university credit card d. Tracks purchases and budgets using university software and generates monthly reports e. Monitors shipping and receiving of equipment and supplies f. Coordinates with Asset Management to label and inventory equipment
10% Fabrication of specialized equipment a. Manufacture special items for instruction and research
5% Chemical Hygiene and Laboratory Safety a. Chemical and hazardous waste storage, handling, and disposal, b. Liaison between departments and Environmental Health and Safety to ensure compliance with regulations and policy
5% Maintenance of physical plan a. Support maintenance of the physical plans associated with designated facilities b. Serve as a member of the emergency response team for designated facilities c. Serve as a liaison between the departments and Facilities Management and create work requests for building repairs and maintenance
5% Training a. Take classes to maintain currency in areas that are essential to fulfilling job duties, such as laboratory safety, hazardous waste storage, handling and disposal, hoist operation, defensive driving, emergency response, outboard engine repair, and other subject areas, as required.
5% Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Associated with this Position Include:
Ability to track equipment inventory, anticipate equipment needs, and schedule equipment usage
Ability to perform preventative and periodic maintenance on all items in inventory
Ability to troubleshoot and/or repair a wide variety of supply and equipment problems
Ability to operate or learn how to operate technical equipment used in Natural Resources
Ability to purchase of new equipment and supplies and technology
Ability to understand and practice chemical hygiene with an understanding of standards and regulations
Mathematics skills as required to generate purchase orders, and track budgets
Ability to design and fabricate equipment used in Natural Resources
Interpersonal communication skills, including , including conflict resolution with students, faculty and staff
Ability to work with a minimum of supervision
Writing skills as required for effective communication
Ability to maintain records
Computer skills including use of common types of university software
Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.
Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with a diverse group with staff, students, and faculty from diverse backgrounds.
Demonstrated sensitivity to cross-cultural perspectives and experiences.
Minimum Qualifications:
Equivalent to three years of experience providing instructional support services in natural resources or a related unit or discipline, or in producing materials or supplies or repairing equipment in a discipline related to the area to which assigned. or Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in natural resources or a discipline related to the area may be substituted for one year of the required experience. or Equivalent to four years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in natural resources or a discipline related to the area to which assigned may be substituted for two years of the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Stockroom experience in a University academic department
