Summary: The Director of the Student Engagement and Leadership Center (SELC) provides strong educational, social, and leadership development oriented, co-curricular experiences that enhance student learning and campus life at The University of Texas at El Paso. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Students for Engagement, the Director will oversee the design and implementation of engaging programs and activities promoting student life, building leadership capacity, supporting student success and a vibrant, inclusive student body. The Director plays an integral role in the academic and professional development of students’ assets through a variety of high-impact experiences.

Department Leadership and Management
Responsible for the strategic mission and vision of the department and creating an inclusive culture that embraces differences.
Provides oversite for tracking engagement of students participating in activities or initiatives facilitated by the Division of Student Affairs through the UTEP Mine Tracker (Anthology Engage platform) in a variety of areas including but not limited to, participation in clubs and organizations, Fraternity and Sorority Life, intramurals, club sports, leadership development programs and positions, study abroad, and university departmental uses.
Serve as a member of the Anthology Insight team in collaboration with the Assistant Dean of Students for Engagement to support and train the departments within the Division of Student Affairs on the use of the data visualization system. Anticipate future needs of the University with the Assistant Dean of Students for Engagement to continuously generate assessment data and reports to share with University administrators that accurately reflect student engagement on campus.
Responsible for the recruitment, training, professional development, and management of all levels of staff within the Student Engagement and Leadership Center.
Serves as a member of the Student Engagement Leadership Team and contributes to the broader institutional goals of increasing participation by students in student life activities and UTEP Edge high-impact experiences.
Develops, implements, and conducts a comprehensive department assessment plan that includes evidence of student learning, level of engagement in student life/campus life activities and high-impact practices, student and customer satisfaction, monthly Department Dashboards, Impact Reports and an Annual Work Plan containing specific and measurable goals and objectives.
Develops and implements a robust marketing, outreach and communication plan that encourages students to be engaged in leadership development, clubs and organizations, student life activities, and diversity and inclusion programing and contributes significantly to the overall retention of students at UTEP.
Provides leadership, analysis, and advice in relation to federal, state, and local laws in addition to the policies and procedures outlined in the UT System Board of Regents Rules, the UTEP Handbook of Operating Procedures, and the Student Organization Handbook that pertain to student activities and events, risk management, student organizations, student code of conduct, and related travel for students. Responsible for creating and modifying applicable policies, procedures and practices in order to become or remain compliant.
Budget, Resources, and Management
Provides fiscal management of Student Engagement and Leadership Center and appropriate programmatic budgets by reviewing cost factors and estimates used in planning, organizing, and scheduling work, preparing bids, selecting vendors or subcontractors, and determining cost effectiveness for major large-scale student and campus-wide events and special projects including, but not limited to Minerpalooza, Texas Western Gold Rush, and the Annual Miners Leadership Summit.
Provides leadership, direction, and the support to ensure that day-to-day operations are performed consistently and effectively to achieve high quality outcomes.
Ensures that staff maintain appropriate certifications, training, and awareness of campus, state and federal policies, procedures, protocols, and resources.
Establish strong partnerships with the UTEP Police Department, Special Events, Athletics, Environmental Health and Safety, Parking and Transportation Services, and others necessary to manage major events and activities and support student success.
Department is responsible for managing outdoor event spaces/venues on behalf of the University.
Leadership Development
Responsible for designing a comprehensive university-wide student leadership and development program that is guided by relevant theories and is reflective of the student population.
Works collaboratively with faculty, departments, Colleges/Schools, and administration in developing, leading and assessing a culturally inclusive leadership development program with programs/activities that support first-year experience, juniors, seniors, graduate students and on-line students, high-impact activities, and academic success initiatives.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Ensures the development and implementation of a comprehensive, learning outcome based, programming model that contributes greatly to educating students on diversity and inclusion initiatives.
Works collaboratively with faculty, departments, Colleges/Schools, and administration in developing, leading, and assessing diversity, equity and inclusion programming that support student success.
In partnership with faculty, departments, Colleges/Schools, and administration, create, implement, and oversee programs and activities that help all students better understand, appreciate and relate to the world around them by expanding their cultural awareness and understanding of their connection to the global community and acquiring the skills necessary to be productive citizens in a global community.
Unerstands the department's role in accomplishing the Universitiy's mission.
Acts as a liaison between the department and internal and/or external customers.
Participates in various committees, professional trainings, industry conferences, and conventions. Some travel required.,
Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software, Anthology Engage system, and able to learn and use institutional software systems.
Complies with all State and University policies.
