Princeton University Health Services seeks an innovative, high-energy physician to serve as Associate Director of Medical Services. The Associate Director will provide leadership and management of outpatient medical services and will partner with the Director of Medical Services at a signal moment in the life of University Health Servicesâ”with new recognition of the vital role Medical Services plays in the campus community, new resources, and the imminent move to a state-of-the-art building, designed to support an integrative medical care model. Reporting to the Director of Medical Services (DMS), the Associate Director will partner with the DMS, helping to shape and define the vision for UHS Outpatient Medical Services, and will be charged with operationalizing quality medical care practices for Princetonâ™s students.
The Associate Director will oversee the staff of UHS Medical Services including physicians, nurse practitioners, medical assistants, a dietitian, and radiology technologist. As Director of Medical Services' deputy, when the DMS is absent, the Associate Director will support all Medical Services, including working directly with the area directors for Athletic Medicine and Occupational Health, and serve as the primary point of contact for Medical Services for UHS leadership, campus partners and University administration.
The Associate Director will be a champion of change and clinical innovation through the implementation of best practices, and the assurance of continuous quality improvement activity, policies, and procedures that optimize patient care and access. The ADMS will work closely with the Director of Medical Services and the Assistant Medical for Quality in these endeavors.
The ADMS will direct the day-to-day activities of approximately 20 clinical staff and will be charged with providing strong administrative and clinical supervision, ensuring a culture of continuous quality improvement and care, and the skillful management of resources. In addition, in the absence of the Director, the ADMS will provide support for the Medical Services' 80 clinical and non-clinical staff.
The ADMS will be a strong clinician who will lead by example in providing care of the highest quality to students while taking on this significant leadership role. It is in this context that the new Associate Director of Medical Services will address the following priorities:
Ensure that evidence-based medicine and quality improvement activities are integrated into the delivery of efficient, high quality patient care, and that data collection and utilization reports are integrated into processes of system evaluation and care redesign.
As Lab Director, oversee the POCT lab and manage relations with Quest Lab.
Collaborate with the DMS to establish Medical Servicesâ™ priorities and ensure the effective management of human and financial resources for Outpatient Medical Services.
Work closely with the Assistant Director of Medical Services in the review, revision, and development of new policies, practices, and procedures around delivery of care, and ensure that expectations are understood by all Outpatient Medical Services staff.
Provide regular feedback and written performance appraisals to clinical staff on the interdisciplinary medicine team and provide support to managers reporting to the ADMS.
Optimize the use of technology to enhance quality, capacity, and efficiency throughout the Outpatient Medical Service.
Develop robust onboarding practices and ensure access to professional development opportunities to clinical staff with wide-ranging education and experience.
Develop processes for identifying and reporting concerning trends or events and to manage risk broadly.
Ensure that Outpatient Medical Services staffing and practices reflect UHS's and the University's commitment to diversity and inclusion.
The ideal candidate will be an accomplished physician leader, board certified in Adolescent Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Pediatrics with a record of innovative problem-solving, the temperament and experience to work effectively with students, and to understand their unique healthcare needs and issues. Candidates should have New Jersey license as an MD or DO, at least 7 years of clinical experience, and current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automatic External Defibrillator use.
