The Stanford Redwood City campus, which officially opened in March 2019, is home to about 2,400 university staff members whose jobs range from development to finance to information technology. The campus is the university's first significant expansion beyond the main campus, and it evokes the look, feel and warmth of Stanford.
The campus resides on 35 acres with approximately 700,000 square feet of office and amenities space. It is home to all or most of the staff from University Human Resources and Business Affairs (including University IT) and select areas of other schools and units: Land, Buildings & Real Estate; Residential & Dining Enterprises; Office of Technology Licensing; Office of the Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning; Office of Development; Office of Continuing Studies; School of Medicine staff; and University Libraries and Press.

The Safety and Resiliency Specialist will be a member of the Stanford Redwood City Operations team which is part of Land, Buildings & Real Estate (LBRE). The position reports to the Executive Director of Stanford Redwood City.
The Safety and Resiliency Specialist will collaborate across various departments (Facilities Operations and Resilience and Response) within the LBRE organization and with external departments (Environmental Health, and Safety) to maintain the existing culture of excellence.

The expected pay range for this position is $93,000.00 to $122,000.00 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (2 or more days on campus per week)
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in art/science in related field and five (5) plus years progressively responsible experience in occupational safety and health, emergency response/management, environmental science, industrial hygiene, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Job Skills and Qualifications:
Excellent knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local codes and regulations. Ability to interpret specific requirements and university policies.
Demonstrated ability to influence and motivate constituencies which could span multiple organizational boundaries.
Demonstrated excellent planning, organizational and analytical skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to cultivate professional and business partnerships. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with diverse audiences; ability to explain technical concepts clearly and concisely.
Proficiency with standard desktop applications (word processing, spreadsheets, presentations) and relevant software.
Relevant subject matter expertise.
May require after hours response availability for emergency situations.

CORE DUTIES
General
Work under self-initiated direction to develop, implement, and maintain programs, systems, and procedures necessary to ensure the overall safety & health, resiliency and emergency preparedness of the SRWC Operations team and campus community
Maintain communication with the SRWC Executive Director and SRWC Operations Team plus operational groups to address technical and/or logistical issues
Act as lead technical expert, providing consultation and direction to the SRWC Operations team and campus community
Act as compliance liaison representing SRWC to San Mateo County Environmental Health, CalOSHA, Bay Area Air Quality Management District and any other regulatory agency which has authority for programs under this position
Act as liaison/member to key groups/committees, i.e., Infrastructure Safety & Security Committee, LBRE Resiliency & Response Committee and the Department Operations Center (DOC) Coordinators group
Maintain program documentation and assessment reports, metrics, etc.
May direct and/or supervise staff
Safety & Health Programs
Conduct comprehensive, independent compliance assurance reviews of environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures; prepares accompanying management reports, documentation, and evaluations.
Participate in developing, implementing, and managing hazard identification and correction programs such as the Job Safety Analysis, Pre-Task Planning, job briefings, and complex jobs requiring multi-party involvement.
Perform field observations to ensure compliance with Cal/OSHA and SRWC Safety programs.
Keep SRWC Executive director apprised of significant safety, emergency preparedness, regulatory and environmental compliance issues that exist or may be on the horizon
Investigate accidents, incident and injuries; recommend preventative, corrective action(s) on the SU17 report form
Perform ergonomic assessments upon request and/or in response to reported repetitive motion injuries
Resiliency, Emergency Preparedness & Response
Maintain SRWC Operations and SRWC Campus Operations Center emergency preparedness and response planning, procedures and documentation
Maintain and adjust the Campus Operations Center ICS structure to meet response needs
Be able to assume command and branch level ICS positions
Maintain currency of the Everbridge SRWC SUAlert segment; ensure accuracy of notification templates and membership of groups; ensure effective backup coverage for generation and sending of SRWC SUAlerts
Plan and conduct quarterly emergency preparedness/response exercises for the SRWC Operations Team and SRWC campus population; coordinate with LBRE Safety Office and EH&S as warranted
Conduct post-exercise, post-emergency debriefings
Develop and maintain business continuity, resiliency planning for the SRWC Operations Team and supporting documentation
Ensure effective resiliency planning for alternate coverage of mission critical tasks of the Safety & Resiliency Specialist
Likewise, act as liaison to LBRE's Safety Office Director and Stanford's Environmental Health & Safety for technical direction as warranted and for assurance of consistency in application of compliance programs
Environmental Compliance
Identify environmental compliance requirements, ensure compliance programs accordingly and maintain the currency of applicable permits, e.g., air permits for emergency generators, CUPA hazardous materials permit, etc.
Ensure currency of hazardous materials inventory for SRWC campus
Arrange for hazardous waste disposal as needed
Ensure compliance with applicable CalOSHA requirements
Oversee the hazardous waste and chemical storage and inventory for SRWC
