Our laboratory is looking for a collaborative and motivated Research Technologist to join our dynamic team that is focused on identifying the role that the sugar O-GlcNAc plays in mediating cell survival decisions in models of oxidative stress and ischemic injury. Successful candidates will receive training enabling them to work independently to support the goals of the laboratory (ordering, reagent preparation, equipment maintenance), contribute to projects within the laboratory, and to support the training program Immersive Training in the Glycosciences (calendar maintenance, reagent preparation, organizational activities).
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Follow established procedures and protocols.
Maintain laboratory inventories and order reagents.
Operate lab computers for data entry and maintain accurate data records.
Will use universal safety precautions to protect self and co-workers from biohazardous materials, including blood-borne pathogens.
Prepare laboratory reagents.
Manage equipment maintenance.
Maintain and update calendars.
Engage in organizational and teaching activities for Immersive Training in the Glycociences.
Participate in collaborative projects using techniques that will include: 1) Propagation of bacteria; 2) Preparation of DNA; 3) Mammalian cell culture; 4) Protein purification; and 5) SDS-Page and Immunoblotting.
Operate basic laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, pH meter, analytical balance, scintillation counter, spectrophotometer, fluorescence or luminescence spectrophotometer, light microscope, and/or utilizes laminar flow hood.
*This project may utilize in vivo models in experiments. It will be critical that the successful candidate following experimental protocols, monitors animals, and maintains health records in accordance with USDA and AALAC guidelines. This project may require animal sacrifices and dissection. The successful candidate will comply with biohazard/radiation safety standards through proper handling of potentially hazardous chemical and biological agents and/or radiation sources in the workplace. Such work will include completion of annual university biohazard/universal precaution/radiation safety training.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Some related post-undergraduate work experience.
Ideal candidates will have working knowledge or one or more of the following disciplines achieved through undergraduate studies, and laboratory experience: biology, biochemistry, chemistry, and/or molecular biology.
Experience within the field of glycobiology and/or protein purification.
Relevant laboratory experience acquired through extracurricular activities or summer employment.
