We are seeking a Physician Assistant who will serve on a multidisciplinary team, working collaboratively with the faculty, fellows, staff and other advanced practitioners in the Johns Hopkins Division of Nephrology, providing direct clinical care to patients in outpatient and dialysis clinics. This position reports directly to the Clinical Director.
Working with a strong focus on quality and patient satisfaction, the advanced practitioner, as a critical member of the nephrology teams will conduct daily outpatient clinics and dialysis sessions at external outpatient dialysis sites.
Staff privileges will be granted to the advanced practitioner by the Johns Hopkins Hospital Medical Board and Bayview Medical Center; these privileges include specific tasks and are reviewed annually. The advanced practitioner will participate in training and evaluation led by the Division of Nephrology, and meet internal training guidelines prior to treating patients.
Skills needed include an ability to incorporate into practice theoretical concepts and advanced clinical skills with patients, families, and interdisciplinary health care team members. Analytical abilities are necessary to diagnose patients and to develop and implement plans of action. Advanced interpersonal skills are necessary to communicate effectively with all members of the interdisciplinary health care team to enhance collaboration and problem-solving. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary to provide information to patients and health care personnel. The advanced practitioner must be a self-starter who can identify ways of improving patient care and supporting the divisions overall clinical practice.
This is a rewarding, yet demanding, full-time clinical position, with an expectation that the advanced practitioner will meet the clinical productivity metrics associated with their level of employment.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
The ability to cover hemodialysis patients at multiple dialysis sites around Johns Hopkins hospitals, based on the clinical requirements of the division. Ability to cover inpatient consults services across both campuses, including weekend coverages as needed.
Perform half-day outpatient clinics when not rounding in the outpatient hemodialysis centers.
Documenting in the electronic medical records during hemodialysis visits and outpatient clinics and communicating directly with primary teams.
Ensuring appropriate care and follow up plans have been made for patients.
Assisting in the cross-coverage of patients followed by other members of the clinical teams.
Working collaboratively with the other providers in the dialysis clinics to ensure continuity of care and continued coverage of patients.
Following up with the patients primary care physician or established nephrologist as need to ensure continuity of care.
Educating patients and families regarding the nature of their clinical problems, prognosis, and options for continued care, including home dialysis and kidney transplantation.
Other duties as assigned to contribute to the clinical mission of the Division of Nephrology.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree; Certification by the NCCPA or similar national certifying body; Completion of a CAAHEP certified Physician Assistant program. Must be licensed as PA in State of Maryland or other state where practicing.
Experience may be considered in lieu of bachelor's degree, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Current CPR / ACLS certification required.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Analytical ability necessary to evaluate health status of patient and to implement proper care plan. Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with other services.
Ability to work well as a member of a health care team with a high degree of self-motivation.
General computer knowledge and ability to use computerized medical information systems.
Preferred Qualifications
Adult - Internal Medicine training preferred.
