The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Department of Neurology is seeking a Research Assistant to head the Johansen Laboratory in the Cerebrovascular Division. This individual will be instrumental in leading recruitment for research studies, all data management and protocol development for two NIH funded grants, as well as other lab administrative responsibilities, with the overarching focus of investigating the relationship between cardiac structure and function and brain structure and function.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
The position will include research data entry using Excel and RedCap, screening patients admitted to Johns Hopkins Hospital for eligibility for ongoing studies, actively consenting these patients while they are in the hospital, assisting in arranging the subsequent inpatient or outpatient advanced cardiac imaging or brain imaging and collection of relevant blood-based biomarkers.
This position will provide a unique opportunity to take the lead on many clinical programs while working with medical students, and undergraduate students to complete projects in the lab.
Participant recruitment, participant testing, maintaining an organized and efficient collection of data using spreadsheets, word processing and databases.
Other responsibilities may include literature search, scanning and photocopying consents or other study documents, assisting with transfer of advanced cardiac or brain images to hard drives, assisting in maintaining server searches and reference material, data analysis with the PI or others in the lab, and other duties as assigned to include management of the laboratory website.
Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Proficiency of Microsoft word, Microsoft Excel and Adobe products.
Organizational skills and attention to detail are necessary.
Numerous opportunities are available to submit and present abstracts and author or co-author research papers.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
Additional related experience in any medical science, neuroscience field or with other clinical research projects may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
Masters Degree preferred.
Familiarity with RedCap database administration preferred.
Ability to use STATA, or R statistical programming software highly preferred.
Exposure to, or ability to perform cognitive testing of participants strongly encouraged.
