The Spangler Lab wishes to recruit qualified individuals to support our groups research, which is focused on applying structure-guided biomolecular engineering to develop novel platforms for the design of protein therapeutics to treat immune diseases such as cancer, chronic infection, and autoimmune disorders (www.spanglerlab.jhu.edu). We are seeking a Research Technologist who will be trained in cutting edge technologies in protein biochemistry, structural biophysics, molecular evolution, and translational immunology, have access to state-of-the-art resources and equipment, and contribute to high-impact research at the interface of engineering and medicine.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Direction of research projects under the general supervision of the faculty investigator and senior lab members.
Protocol development and assay design.
Critical analysis of data.
Identification and troubleshooting of situations requiring special attention.
Lab management and organization.
Purchasing, operating, and maintaining lab equipment and supplies.
Weekly presentation of results to the lab.
Design of figures and preparation of text for reports and publications.
Protein expression and characterization.
Molecular evolution (Yeast and phage display platforms).
Culture of primary cells and established cell lines.
Cell-based activity studies (Flow cytometry, western blotting, ELISA).
Animal models of immune disease.
Bachelor's Degree in Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field required.
Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred.
Relevant research experience in biochemistry, molecular and cell biology, and biophysics is preferred.
