Overview
The Chemical and Waste Management Specialist will be responsible for the daily operations of the chemical storage room, bio-waste and chemical waste rooms. The primary responsibilities include developing and implementing chemical management program, from receiving chemicals to distributing chemicals to individual laboratories within Tandon School of Engineering of NYU, keeping an up-to-date and accurate chemical inventory using BioRaft ChemTracker software, as well as developing and implementing procedures for the disposal of hazardous waste per government regulations. The Chemical and Waste Management Specialist regularly interacts with Tandon Laboratory Safety Officer, NYU EHS, facilities management, laboratory managers, faculty and researchers.
Responsibilities
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in a relevant science field (i.e. chemistry and biology etc.) or related area
Preferred Education: Master's Degree in relevant science field (i.e. chemistry biology etc.)
Required Experience: 3+ years experience working in a laboratory environment that uses chemicals.
Preferred Experience: 3+ years Extensive experience in managing chemical storage and waste storage rooms.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: High level of independent thinking, creativity and goal-oriented productivity. Excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills. Ability to identify and support implementation of best practices. Project management. MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Must be well versed in quality data collection to ensure adequacy, accuracy and legitimacy of data in NYU systems and be able to strictly follow data privacy and security procedures for data handling and analysis to ensure adherence to legal and institutional standards.
Qualifications
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $65,000.00 to USD $115,000.00.
