The Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking Sr. Physician Assistant experienced in Emergency Medicine towork collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health care team.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential Job Functions:
Perform a comprehensive, accurate history and physical including chief complaint, presenting signs and symptoms, past medical history, and interval history. Recognize abnormal and significant findings and discuss with attending physician as appropriate.
Order diagnostics and interpret abnormal findings.
Discuss or staff cases with attending physician when appropriate per department standards based on acuity or venue.
Initiate Basic/Advanced life support in response to emergency situations.
Maintain technical proficiency with approved procedures including suturing, wound care, and orthopedic care.
Initiate and prescribe medications.
Complete all aspects of medical documentation in accordance with department standards.
Arrange consultations and referrals when needed.
Attend staff meetings and keep up to date on department protocols, operations, research, and procedures providing input and feedback.
Remain proficient in the utilization of commonly used clinical protocols and evidence-based guidelines.
Remain abreast of new treatment modalities and technologies within the field of emergency medicine.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree; Certification by the NCCPA or similar national certifying body; Completion of a CAAHEP certified Physician Assistant program. Must be licensed as PA in State of Maryland or any other state where practicing. Requires a minimum of 3 years prior emergency medicine experience. Residency or fellowship programs in area of specialization may substitute for some experience, as permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. Must maintain all current professional licensure and related certifications throughout duration of employment. Completion of the JHH credentialing process is required prior to start date as it pertains to providing any patient care that constitutes the practice of emergency medicine.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum experience required for the respective job.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Provider will work proficiently and autonomously in the various venues of ED.
Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications:Current CPR/BLS/ACLS certification required. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment. Completion of the JHH credentialing process is required prior to start date of direct patient care. Orientation as a PA observatory trainee may be considered prior to credentialling strictly for the purposes of familiarizing new staff with departmental operations, protocols, documentation, and resources prior to the start of any direct patient care.
Physical Requirements: Sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of times throughout shifts ranging from 8-12 hours in length. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s). Ability to move standard equipment through a hospital or clinical environment.
Able to stand and walk for extended periods of time
Visual acuity for near vision
Good hand/eye coordination
Fine motor skills for performing such tasks as suturing and incision and drainingof abscesses.
Gross motor movements for applying splints
Working Conditions: Attention to patient safety, persona safety, and safety of co-workers due to contact with potentially infected body fluids with blood, and use appropriate universal precautions for any contact, droplet, airborne pathogens.
