Job Summary: | This is an Occupational Safety and Health Consultant position with the Wisconsin On-Site Safety and Health Consultation Program (WisCon), within the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH), and performing duties under the general supervision of the Consultation Program Manager. This professional-level position is focused on providing a broad range of on-site occupational safety and health expertise and guidance to private sector businesses throughout Wisconsin. Highway travel within the state of WI is frequent and routine, typically 4 single-night, consultant-scheduled, overnight trips per month using a state-owned vehicle. While substantial occupational safety and health experience is preferred, WisCon is also an outstanding place to establish and grow a new professional's occupational safety and health career. Team members are provided with extensive training, assistance, and peer-mentorship throughout their employment with WisCon. |
Responsibilities: | Identifies and develops plans to address safety issues, provides consultation, and tracks and manages cases in a specific area of specialty so all work, recreation, and research can be performed safely and in compliance will all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and standards. Makes recommendations for the control of identified hazards and assesses hazards using relevant regulatory methodologies. - 5% Secures resources and schedules logistics for a safety program
- 5% Identifies operational and safety issues and develops improvement plans and standard operating procedures
- 75% Provides knowledge and guidance to internal and external stakeholders including leadership, in a specialized area of safety such biosafety, chemical, hazardous materials, agriculture, lake, radiation, and Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA)
- 5% Directs logistical activities, allocates resources and investigates components of specific health and safety cases
- 5% Communicates findings to necessary stakeholders
- 5% Reviews industry updates and may assist in developing safety communication materials based on industry changes

Education: | Preferred Bachelor's or Master's Degree from a regionally accredited university, with preference for candidates with degree majors/emphases in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Construction Safety, Environmental Health, Public Health. |
Qualifications: | One year of related, responsible work experience in a professional occupational safety and health capacity is required, and two or more years of occupational safety and health related experience is preferred.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Preferred
Certification as a Certified Safety Professional and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist is preferred.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Current US citizenship is required.
Possession of a valid driver's license and driving record that meets University of Wisconsin Risk Management requirements is required. Broad knowledge of occupational safety and health hazards, controls, and regulations is preferred; training will be provided to develop expertise. Effective team skills are required.

Salary: | Minimum $55,000 ANNUAL (12 months) Depending on Qualifications The base minimum annual salary for this position is $55,000/year. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications.
