Amend at UCSF in the UCSF Division of the Center for Vulnerable Populations seeks to recruit a Project Director/Tracking Coordinator to lead program pilot development, implementation and research/evaluation for Amend. The RDA will independently oversee a broad spectrum of Amend pilot programming evaluation (including intervention pilots, educational interventions, and correctional health policy analyses). Duties will require knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methodology and correctional policy or criminal legal system reform; public and/or occupational health; program management; analyzing large, complex administrative data that were not necessarily collected for research purposes; contributing to data collection, which includes administering surveys, focus groups, and interviews; contributing to writing results from process and outcome evaluations using mixed-methods approach; producing internal and external deliverables to advance programmatic and policy level reforms. Knowledge of related areas considered a plus, including conditions of confinement in U.S. prisons; labor-relations and movement organizing; and prison policy changes that seek to advance racial justice and health equity; best practices and human rights standards related to correctional practices; and qualitative and quantitative research methodology is a plus. Superb skills in writing, organization, communication; personnel management; and experience collaborating with high-ranking government officials, academic researchers, and leaders of non-governmental and community-based organizations; as well as demonstrated program management skills (including financial management of complex program budgets and defining and achieving clearly defined program objectives) are also required.
The Project Director/Tracking Coordinator will have responsibility for the overall management and oversight of all administrative operations (including related to ensuing Institutional Review Board certifications are kept up to date), program design and implementation, and program research and evaluation. The Project Director/Tracking Coordinator will have sole responsibility for coordinating activities and measuring health and related correctional outcomes in their program of focus for Amend, as well as reporting progress to the program Director across multiple projects.
In fulfilling their duties, the Project Director/Tracking Coordinator will design, develop, and oversee major impact evaluation components, ensure that assessment tools (surveys, focus groups) are on task, including organizing training, managing, and mentoring program staff ranging from the research assistant to contracted trainers from key program partners like the Norwegian Correctional Service. The RDA will work collaboratively with the Chief Program Officer and Director of Amend on formulating short-term and long-term planning and evaluation metrics and will interface with prison system leadership and other high-ranking stakeholders (e.g. elected officials, implementation partners, leaders of community-based organizations, and funders and other supports). The RDA will provide mentorship and strategic guidance to Amend evaluation staff, including conceiving of and planning program evaluation efforts that include qualitative and quantitative research aims, as well as analysis of policies related to prisons. The RDA will also represent the Amend program and play a leading, independent role in the dissemination of Amend program evaluation results via the academic literature, lay press, conferences, and other forums. The RDA will be responsible for ensuring that program reporting requirements related to their assigned projects are met across a range of funders, including the NIH, individual donors, and large and small foundations. Finally, the RDA will help the Director identify and apply for future program research and evaluation funding opportunities, preparing strategic planning documents related to new evaluation plans, and supporting competitive grant and other funding applications as assigned by the Director.
The Project Director/Tracking Coordinator should expect to travel for up to 25 days / year with trips very occasionally requiring 5-7 days of continuous travel, primarily to partnering prisons throughout the U.S. and internationally.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.
