Position Summary:

Applies professional knowledge and expertise in one or more specialty areas within EH&S serving as the lead in managing all trainings for the department. Organizes and analyzes compliance data in safety databases and learning management systems, demonstrating good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions and providing regulatory interpretation and technical advice. Conducts interpretations, presentations, and visualizations of safety metrics to track efficacy and performance of department wide EHS programs using knowledge of Cal/OSHA regulations and University policies. Serves as the safety subject matter expert and primary department liaison to RSS, and other safety data and learning management systems. Works closely with EHS leadership providing timely reports, ensuring information is accurately collected and represented to ensure predetermined objectives are adequately met and that application of professional / technical judgment is sound. . Responsible for special projects pertaining to Cal/OSHA Title 8 programs, COVID-19, incident investigations, occupational safety inspections in functional areas, assesses safety of work sites and equipment, and makes recommendations to improve safe work practices. Decision-making is based on established procedures; relevant laws; regulations and organizational policy; professional best practices; relevant science methodology; impact on other EH&S programs, and senior management approvals as required. Decisions may impact individual work, other EH&S programs, other departments and / or segments of the organization.

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Thorough knowledge / understanding of specific EH&S field(s) including related laws and regulations; and general knowledge / understanding of all EH&S fields with focus on Occupational Safety and a working knowledge of Industrial Hygiene and Ergonomics Thorough knowledge and skill in applying and interpreting applicable local, state, and federal regulations and related Cal/OSHA standards and guidelines. Thorough written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen and skill to communicate effectively with staff, faculty, and stakeholders.in a diverse environment. Strong analytical and organizational skills to organize, prioritize and manage the successful completion of projects within time and budget constraints. Strong skill to appropriately use technology and relevant scientific equipment as required.

Professional certification preferred.
