The Department of Orthopedic Surgery is looking for aSr. Medical Office Coordinator (Sr. MOC) to support the clinical practice for one orthopedic surgeon as well as one nurse practitioner. Coordinates the day-to-day activities of a multi-faceted complex medical and/or surgical orthopedic pediatric practice to ensure a smoothly functioning office and good patient relations. Serves as resource in team environment. Addresses patient problems, third party issues and patient-related situations based on past experiences and resolves issues independently. As appropriate, refers patients to other resources. Adapts to changes in technology and software to ensure efficient office practice. Provides administrative support for medical matters on behalf of orthopedic physicians, as well as general academic/general administrative support.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Schedules patient visits, from simple to complex situations.
Performs insurance verification.
May perform patient communications on behalf of physicians (variable situations).
May serve as physicians liaison with internal contacts (within and outside the department) and external contacts (insurance company reps, other physician offices).
May perform some clinic-related administrative work for assigned physician(s).
May perform some general administrative work for assigned physician(s).
Resolves scheduling conflicts and maintains clinic patient flow.
Researches issues relating to billing or charge capture, discusses issues with appropriate staff and/or physicians, and takes necessary measures to resolve issues.
Resolves patient problems or refers patients to appropriate resources.
Intervenes, as necessary, on issues relating to patient complaints, health care providers' concerns, and operational issues, and takes measures to correct situation or ensures appropriate personnel are involved.
Prepares and maintains clinic statistics and reports using database or spreadsheet software. Develops reports to track referral patterns, data regarding physician availability, appointment waiting periods, and unkept appointments.
Monitors clinic compliance with quality assurance guidelines and makes arrangements for implementation.
Ensures that clinical equipment is maintained in adequate working order and schedules maintenance.
Performs miscellaneous related duties and special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED.
3 years progressively responsible medical office experience.
Medical terminology.
Additional education may be substituted for up to one year of experience.
Intermediate computer and proofreading skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a related medical office, hospital, call center or customer service environment.
