Under general supervision, responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting structured cabling systems for data, voice, and video communications, as well as fiber optic cabling for data communications. This includes running and terminating cables, testing, and troubleshooting connectivity issues, and ensuring that all cabling meets required wiring standards.
Essential Duties:
Install, terminate, and test network cabling.
Connect network components and configure network settings (e.g., Wireless Access points, switches, and phones)
Troubleshoot and resolve network connectivity issues that are reported through incidents and requests.
Assists with maintaining inventory of cabling and equipment and with documentation of network infrastructure.
Report, record, and work with departments to resolve network-related issues and incidents.
Other functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent, vocational training or hands-on experience with installation of network and/or fiber optic cable installation, or certification in structured cabling and fiber optics.
Basic knowledge of network cabling and fiber optics.
Ability to work with basic hand and power tools, ladders, and power-operated lift equipment.
Ability to read and interpret technical documentation and wiring diagrams.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of industry standard cabling practices
Ability to adhere to regulations surrounding health and safety.
Ability to carry out routine mechanical and health and safety checks on lifting equipment.
Ability to read and understand cable standards (terminating, testing)
Ability to think intuitively and analytically to break down and resolve problems.
Ability to read, understand, and follow high-level policies and guidelines and apply those guidelines to daily responsibilities.

Specific job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification render the position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of section 51.215 Texas education code.
Applicant will be required to drive a university vehicle and must be complete and submit the UTA Form CO-EHS-F101 Request for Review of Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) to have their driving record history checked and be clear to drive.

Certified Network Cabling Installer (CNCI) or other certifications in structured cabling and fiber optics.
Experience with industry-standard tools (cleavers, fusion splicer) and testing equipment.
Familiarity with local and national electric codes.
Ability to lift and maneuver equipment and materials up to 50lbs.
