Job Description The Dive Safety Program Manager is the EHS liaison to BU field studies activities, serves as the Dive Safety Officer (DSO), and is responsible for the development, implementation, training, and maintenance of safety programs related to BU-sponsored scientific diving activities, including diving performed under the Research enterprise and for academic purposes. This Program Manager will work under the authority and direction of the Director of Campus Operations, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), serve on and advise the Dive Control Board (DCB), collaborate with and support programs from the BU Marine Program, FitRec/Physical Education, Recreation, & Dance (PERD) Aquatics Program, and other programs as assigned. The Program Manager must have the ability to interface with the local community and serve as the regulatory liaison for the University regarding scientific diving regulatory and policy matters. The DSO must also have the ability to interface with the recreational community including; dive shops, volunteers, dive charters, and other stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities
Serve as the Dive Safety Officer
Prepare researchers and students in the safe execution of scientific dive activities
Approve dive safety plans
Facilitate reciprocity with collaborative institutions
Maintain regulatory compliance with AAUS and OSHA standards
Conduct scientific diving instruction, education, and continuing education
Develop safety guidelines in field research supporting the BU Marine Program
Provide instruction for scientific diving technology and techniques applicable to researchers' current interests
Maintain the facilities Dive Locker and associated equipment
Conduct incident investigations and make recommendations to prevent recurrence
Prepare reports and corrective action plans on diving operations and practices
Provide required reporting to external certification agencies
Collaborate with other EHS staff to develop and improve safety training programs
Provide oversight of small boat safety programs that support scientific research
Required Skills
A./B.S. in a related field, Masters preferred
5+ years of direct experience
Number of years and type of experience may substitute for education
Working knowledge of safety information management systems
OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour Certification or ability to obtain.
