The Bloomberg Distinguished Professorships (BDP) program is seeking a Communications Specialist who will serve as a multi-platform content producer to support, manage, and develop the BDP program's online presence. This includes day-to-day management of the primary website and social media accounts and other accounts as needed. The digital content and marketing specialist will also conceptualize and execute marketing plans to promote the BDP program's research cluster recruitment efforts.
This position reports to the BDP Communications Manager in the Vice Provost for Research (VPR) office.
The digital content and marketing specialist will be a curious, motivated communications professional who will support the conceptualization and execution of creative, high-quality content for both organic and paid outreach on websites and social networks. They will manage the BDP program's Twitter and YouTube channels, and maintain, manage and continuously improve the BDP website and its content. The ideal candidate will have experience producing engaging content, website design/ maintenance, and paid social media marketing. This position will require forward-thinking and creativity. Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Digital and Social Content - 70%
Promote visibility and awareness of the BDP Program to internal and external audiences, including JHU leadership, alumni, donors, faculty, and students.
Work proactively with VPR leadership, BDPs, BDP Cluster co-leaders, and staff to develop, write, and design content—including audio, text, imagery and video—for web and other digital platforms.
Maintain all aspects of the BDP website, including posting content, editing existing pages, and exploring new ways to use the BDP website to meet communications goals.
Manage and improve current BDP social media accounts (YouTube and Twitter), and oversee social media content calendar by identifying programs, events, or research for promotion with natural tie-in opportunities.
Evaluate emerging social media platforms and envision ways they could be used effectively.
Maintain and manage JHU Vice Provost for Research website.
Monitor public mentions of the BDP program, BDP faculty, other relevant mentions across social media.
Monitor social and digital channels for success stories about BDP faculty that can be shared with BDP donor.
Use data analytics to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of website, social media and e-newsletter tools.
Serve as primary backup for monthly program e-newsletter development and management.
Provide digital content for e-newsletter on a monthly basis.
Ensure consistency of voice and message across all social and web channels, including adherence to brand, use of name, and messaging guidelines.
Marketing – 20%
Develop and lead marketing efforts to attract high-level research faculty to JHU to work within BDP research clusters.
Target and market research stories, recruitment opportunities and other news stories, serving as a subject matter expert in multiple digital communication vehicles.
Develop and oversee paid and organic media and communications efforts.
Develop meaningful metrics to evaluate and measure progress towards goals and specific targets, and use these metrics to develop regular reports for VPR leaders.
Collaboration – 10%
Develop relationships with marketers and digital content specialists across the university with the goal of collaborating on projects that further program goals.
Help support BDP-related faculty by advising and guiding them on appropriate website and social media content and strategies.
Work with BDP staff to identify storytelling opportunities to further program goals.
Special Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Demonstrated versatility in writing styles, including social media posts, short pieces for the web, and marketing copy.
Ability to shoot and edit engaging audio and video for use on social media channels.
Familiarity with video and audio editing software, i.e., Adobe Premier and Adobe Audition.
An eye for design, and experience with design software, i.e., Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Canva, etc.
Strong familiarity with social media management platforms and analytics reporting, e.g., Twitter analytics.
Familiarity with Wordpress.
Additional Details
This is a hybrid work position, and the selected candidate may be required to work occasional evening and weekend shifts.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in related field. Two years related experience required.
Additional education may substitute for required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in media/journalism and/or communications in higher education, life science, engineering, or health-related sectors.
Familiarity with AP style.
