We are seeking a CO Patient Service Coordinator will offer courteous, confidential assistance to patients in the shared space that includes Neuro-Ophthalmology, Pediatric Ophthalmology, Echography and Visual Physiology. Deliver outstanding customer service experiences to each patient. Maintains accurate information to facilitate the patient encounter. Uses EPIC to expedite patient scheduling, check-in and check-out, processes IN-BASKET messages and monitors faculty schedules. Works with others in a team environment.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Checks-in and checks out patients.
Monitors e-mail messages from the Wilmer Call Center; responds to or forwards messages appropriately to expedite communication between patients and providers.
Receives and responds to non-routine phone calls from the Wilmer Call Center and internal / external callers.
Assists patients during check-out including printing AVS and eyeglass prescriptions, schedules return appointments using EPIC, schedules appropriate interpretation services, calls JH Transport as needed and coordinates any other special needs for patients.
Schedules patients for medical examinations, consultations, imaging and laboratory tests including those patients seen at satellite offices.
Obtains referrals and authorizations for MRI, CTs and Injections.
Scans patient related documents into EPIC including patient medical records, referrals, authorizations.
Uses knowledge of EPIC to access and capture patient clinic notes.
Monitors templates in advance to ensure appointments were correctly scheduled by Patient Access Service agents or by patients using MyChart.
Calls patients to reschedule appointments that that were inaccurately scheduled.
Fills appointment vacancies due to cancellations.
Answers phones and provides routine information to callers.
Monitors in-basket messages. Handles administrative related in-basket requests and forwards medical related messages to clinicians.
Operates computer to access e-mail, electronic calendars, and other basic office support software.
Provide other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
One year work experience in a similar service-oriented industry required.
Medical terminology, and basic computer skills preferred. Certification in appropriate skill groups must be obtained during introductory period.
Meditech certification must be completed within 2 to 3 weeks of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Two years related work experience preferred.
Knowledge of medical insurance coverage preferred.
Understanding of HIPAA patient privacy and confidentiality rules.
Experience within the Johns Hopkins patient-oriented community.
