The American Chemistry Council (ACC), a national trade association representing the world’s leading chemical and plastics manufacturers, currently has an opportunity for Associate Director, Environment for its Regulatory and Scientific division.  ACC represents its members on public policy issues; coordinates the industry’s research and testing programs; and administers Responsible Care®, the industry’s environment, health, safety and security performance improvement initiative. 

The position is responsible for providing technical and policy expertise for the American Chemistry Council’s (ACC) advocacy related to federal and state environmental media statutes and regulations, including, the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation Act, National Environmental Policy Act, environmental justice policies, and state regulatory or legislative environmental efforts. The position will provide support and management of assigned environmental committees, workgroups and/or taskforces, relevant advocacy and policy issues as assigned.  The position will also assist with advocating for sound environmental policies at the federal and state level by engaging internal and external stakeholders, partners and regulatory agencies. The position reports directly to the Senior Director, Energy, Climate and Environment.

A bachelor’s degree in relevant field (e.g., environmental science, public policy, public health, business management) and five years’ relevant experience in a technical, scientific, legal or policy field are required as well as experience with business, trade, government, political or policy advocacy organization and a sound understanding of relevant regulation, legislation and/or Executive Orders associated with relevant environmental areas (i.e., Inflation Reduction Act, Executive Order 14008; Executive Order on Revitalizing Our Nation’s Commitment to Environmental Justice for All, Clean Water Act, National Environmental Policy Act), and related policy activities that may impact the business of chemistry. A self-starter with the ability to work independently on a variety of projects and prioritize multiple issues, projects, and information requests, excellent writing skills and working knowledge and demonstrated ability to work effectively in Microsoft Office applications, including Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access are a must.
