The Compliance Officer, under direction, assists in oversight of the System Member Compliance Program, monitors and facilitates compliance with federal, state, and Texas A&M University System (TAMUS) regulatory and governing standards, including but not limited to laws, regulations, statutes, codes, policies, procedures, rules, and directives, as well as compliance own internal and external policies and procedures.; Work hours: Mon-Fri; 8 AM-5 PM or as work requirements indicate. Must be able to work remotely as requested by the university.
Responsibilities: -30% Assists Institutional Bio-safety and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee Chairpersons with the development and coordination of a comprehensive research compliance program which aligns with policies, regulations, rules, and procedures of the Texas A&M University System and federal regulatory agencies. -15% Schedules, staffs, coordinates, attends, contributes to, and documents the proceedings of Institutional Bio-safety and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and other research compliance related meetings. -15% Implements and manages Occupational Health and Safety training and certification for faculty, staff and students involved in animal research. -10% Updates WEB content relating to research compliance to reflect changes in institutional programming, operations, System, or federal regulations. -10% Reviews research compliance efforts, activities, procedures, and processes to identify and report areas of compliance that are not in alignment with policies and regulations, revises institutional SAP's and Rules, researches compliance manuals, and other guiding documents as needed. Conducts, documents, and reports internal research compliance assessments, inspections, and audits. -10% Develops and delivers research compliance training programs for faculty, staff, and students. -5% Manages MAESTRO pre- and post-award research compliance tasks and workflows. -5% Performs other duties as assigned as outlined in the Tarleton State University Faculty and Administrative Staff Handbook or as assigned by supervisors in the chain of command.
Education and Experience: -Bachelors degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience. -Four years of experience in research compliance, audit, accounting, legal, or program development. Experience with lab and farm animal management, biohazards and biosafety, export control compliance and occupational health and safety.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: -Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database applications. Strong verbal and written communication skills. -Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred: Masters degree with 4 years of experience in research compliance, audit, accounting, legal, or program development and an understanding of higher education administration that includes one or more of the following: research with human subjects, vertebrate animals, biohazards and biosafety, conflict of interests and ethics, export control, time and effort, select agents, controlled substances, radioactive materials/radiation, or intellectual property.

The target base annual salary is $43,620 and may be negotiable based on funding availability and candidate experience/skillset in relation to the minimum requirements of this position.
