The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is seeking a Writer within the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME). The Biomedical Engineering program is ranked #1 in the nation and is an interdisciplinary department, part of a collaborative effort between the Whiting School of Engineering (WSE) and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (SOM). The Department's mission is to improve health through scientific discovery, education, and innovation at the interface of engineering, biology, and medicine.
The Writer will support BME efforts in both schools by developing communications, with an emphasis on internal and stakeholder communications, across a variety of digital and print platforms, including the BME website, electronic newsletters, integrated marketing campaigns, emails, briefings, materials, and reports. Working with the BME, SOM, and divisional marketing and communications teams, the Writer will produce written content for a variety of audiences to raise awareness of departmental programs and initiatives. The Writer will maintain the department's reputation and recruit top students to our programs. Example audiences include current faculty and students, school and university leadership, alumni, prospective students, and peer institutions.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Conduct interviews, attend events and functions, and perform research of source material to gather and verify information.
Develop communications from concept to final copy.
Ensure that communications have consistent messaging, branding, and style.
Stay abreast of research, trends, and other developments within the department and field.
Assist in proof-reading, fact-checking, and editing publications, websites, newsletters, social media, reports, and other documents.
Collaborate with manager on projects, schedules and deadlines.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in English, writing, communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field.
Two (2) years related experience.
Writing samples may be requested during the selection process.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in higher education and/or Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields.
Experience editing and producing publications with daily deadlines.
