We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary health team to provide comprehensive care to outpatients in the Johns Hopkins HIV County Program. The Johns Hopkins HIV County program provides HIV care through off-site clinics in partnership with health departments surrounding Baltimore and in Western Maryland.
Demonstrated ability in treating adults with HIV infection and adult primary care are prerequisites for this position. Practicing in accordance with State Medical Board guidelines, the provider will evaluate chronic and acute illness, perform diagnostic procedures and tests, institute treatment and referrals, and provide patient education. These duties are performed in collaboration with the medical providers of the Johns Hopkins HIV County Program.
The clinician will see patients in satellite clinics located within the state county health department system. Satellite health department sites include the surrounding counties of Baltimore and Western Maryland (Allegeny, Washington, and Frederick counties). Clinical care involves sessions primarily in the satellite clinics within the county health departments. The total number of sessions a week will be regularly assessed and will be based on program need. It is anticipated that the total number of patients for this position will have on their panel is 200.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Clinical Provider
Conducts comprehensive, acute health assessments of patients.
Regularly attends scheduled continuing education programs to ensure current knowledge of procedures, protocols and clinical care issues.
Provides instruction to patient and family members in health issues.
Writes orders for laboratory tests, medications, care plans, according to establishes procedures and protocol for review by the physician.
Records and documents health assessment plans.
Develops care/treatment plans for patients in consultation with the supervising physician.
Establishes medical diagnoses, including psychosocial and cognitive problems.
Administrative
Assist medical director in day-to-day operations, budget, and report and grant preparation, attend program meetings.
Quality Improvement
Assist the medical director in assessing and implementing quality improvement initiatives across the program.
Education & Training
Assists in educational needs assessment activities.
Assists in curriculum and educational materials development
Precepts health care providers and student practitioners.
Working Conditions
Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous material, pharmacological agents, with little likelihood of harm if established health precautions are followed
Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, radiology, microbiology, pathology and clinical medicine for use in clinical assessment and intervention.
Analytical ability necessary to evaluate health status of patient and to implement proper care plan.
Interpersonal, communication skills necessary to interview, teach and counsel patients.
Ability to work well as a member of a health care team with a high degree of self-motivation.
Travel to various health facilities throughout the state of Maryland, transport patient records and educational materials
Completes and obtains necessary University, governmental credentials
Fulfills all Clinical Practice association requirements
Willingness to attend educational programs to enhance business management, grant preparation and supervisory training
Minimum Qualifications
Master's Degree in Nursing; Registered Nurse license and Certified as a Nurse Practitioner. Must be licensed as NP in State of Maryland or other state where practicing.
Additional experience may substitute for master's degree, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Experience in HIV primary care is mandatory.
Travel to off-site satellite clinics is required.
Valid driver's license and access to reliable personal transportation is required.
Ability to travel 1-2 times monthly to Cumberland, MD with potential overnight hotel stay depending on schedule and preference
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in the management of substance use disorder is desirable.
Knowledge of computer-based application programs such as Microsoft Office and use of electronic medical record.
Experienced in preceptor skills with health care providers and students
Didactic and interactive teaching experience preferred.
**Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR certification required. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment. Completion of the JHH credentialing process is required prior to start date**

Sitting, standing and walking for extended period. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s). Ability to move standard equipment through a hospital or clinical environment.
