The Department of Neurology is seeking a Research Assistant, this position is located in New York City (NYC).The Research Assistantwill provide assistance in ongoing research projects in cognitive neuroscience and learning theories primarily in neurologically impaired populations, including those with severe developmental disorders (e.g., autism) and to a lesser extent in the neurotypical population. This position will require independent thinking and self-directed management of all duties carried out on a daily basis.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include research testing using behavioral methods, physiological monitoring, stimulus production, coding cognitive tasks, video coding using qualitative data analysis software, and participant recruitment. Future projects will likely involve recording and analyzing event-related brain potentials.
Responsibilities include assistance with aspects of experimental design; literature search and review; assistance with manuscript preparation (including writing) and presentations; and maintenance of an organized and efficient filing system and data back-up.
Will include a significant degree of collaboration with a team of investigators.
Travel within NYC using public transportation to various work and research locations.
Occasional travel to Baltimore by train.
May involve occasional travel to academic conferences or training seminars.
Additional knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Experience with human participant based psychological research.
Knowledge of basic statistics (e.g., ANOVA).
Ability to travel within New York City, using public transportation, to various work and research locations throughout the day.
Ability to lift and carry weights up to 50 lbs. for short distances or up to 10 lbs. across work and research locations, using public transportation or taxicabs.
Additionally, one should be capable of occasional long-distance travel (e.g., Baltimore).
Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
Human participant-based research experience involving cognitive psychology and/or neuroscience.
Experience with EEG data collection and/or analysis preferably with Geodesic Sensor Nets, Net Station EEG Software, and/or EEGLAB signal processing environment.
Coding experience with MATLAB and/or R.
Excellent written communication skills
Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Experience with remote data collection preferred.
