The Department of Surgery/Transplantation seeks a Research Technologist to work under the general supervision of a faculty investigator or post-doctoral fellow as well as semi-independent work, is responsible for laboratory research using established procedures and protocols.
The position requires a basic understanding of molecular/cellular techniques required to carry out laboratory experiments, the ability to apply basic analytical skills to implement assigned projects and identify situations needing special attention.
The research focus of the NIH and industrials funded transplantation laboratory is on developing strategies to induce graft tolerance and to enable cross-species transplantation using pig organs, known as xenotransplantation. This position will entail assisting surgeons caring for pre and post transplantation recipients, as well as performing assays to assess for immunologic rejection or tolerance.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Uses molecular biology methods (PCR assays), cell culture methods (primary isolated cells and cell line maintenance), immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence staining, and multicolor flow cytometry.
Organizes, records and maintains animal samples and supply inventory.
Applies analytical skills to implement assigned projects.
Maintains accurate and current data records.
Responsible for maintenance of lab and equipment.
Identifies and trouble-shoots methods and experimental procedures.
Exercises independent judgment.
Good oral and written communication skills are required.
Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.
Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing.
