Stable and affordable housing in safe neighborhoods is fundamental to health. Similarly, access to affordable, nutritious foods is critical to not only living a healthy life but preventing diet-related chronic diseases like diabetes. However, for too many families, these conditions are out of reach. The goal of our research program is to identify ways that housing can be used as a platform to support health and well-being across the life course, working to identify policy and practical solutions.
The Department of Health Policy and Management is seeking a Sr. Research Program Coordinator to manage a 5-year National Institutes of Health-funded study seeking to understand the impact of neighborhoods on health outcomes, particularly diabetes and obesity, in adults and children.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Community Choice Demonstration (CCD) is a $50 million experiment designed to test strategies to help low-income families with housing vouchers move to low-poverty neighborhoods. Researchers from Johns Hopkins will be recruiting a sample of these families from three different cities to understand the Demonstration's impact on health. To that end, we will be collecting baseline and 2-year follow-up survey and biometric data with adults and children and be performing qualitative interviews.
