We are seeking a Research Technologist in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences. This position will be responsible for performing research activities that support the overall program of the Mysore Lab. The Research Technologist will be involved in various aspects of experiments including behavioral experiments, electrophysiology, calcium imaging, and immunohistochemistry. This position will also perform various aspects of analysis and computational modeling. The Research Technologist will also participate in maintaining animal colonies and lab protocols, ordering supplies and overall coordination of lab activities. This position is responsible for training and mentoring undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral researchers on lab procedures in which they are proficient. The ideal candidate will be a motivated person who is passionate about science, has experience in in vivo animal experiments, calcium imaging, and Matlab/Python programming, is well organized, and able to work well with others. This is a full-time position subject to the availability of funds.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Perform stereotaxic surgeries in small animals, which may require standing or sitting for extended periods of time.
Conduct behavioral experiments in small animals.
Use in vivo calcium imaging, optogenetic, chemogenetic, and electrophysiological techniques in experiments.
Use MATLAB to conduct extensive data analysis and programming.
Perform behavioral pose estimation using Python, MATLAB, and/or other packages.
Participate in writing research articles and making figures for publications.
Assist with animal care and management including mouse colony maintenance.
Help with lab experimental hardware (electronics) and software maintenance.
Execute general lab activities such as ordering supplies, making up stock reagents, etc.
Maintain and manage lab records, protocols, certifications, and licenses.
Work with departmental administrative staff to ensure that expenses from sponsored funds are allowable and allocable.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Neuroscience or related field such as Cognitive Science.
Preferred Qualifications
Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred.
A double major, minor, or significant coursework in Math, Applied Math, Computer Science, Physics, or a related quantitative field.
Previous experience with the following research techniques, in vivo neuroscientific experiments in small animals (mouse), in vivo endoscopic calcium imaging in the CNS, 3D marker less behavioral pose estimation methods.
Extensive programming experience in MATLAB, Python, or similar.
Experience with analyzing complex neuroscientific and behavioral data.
