The Department of Neurology is seeking a Biostatistician for the Multiple Sclerosis Precision Medicine Center of Excellence. The Center is conducting several large epidemiological studies of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and the Biostatistician will work as a key member of the research team with primary responsibility for oversight of the Center's research data for complex, longitudinal studies. The Biostatistician will also be involved in in the analyses of the collected epidemiologic and neuroimaging data and will have opportunities to contribute to scientific publications as a collaborating or lead author. The position will report to the faculty statistician and will participate in the supervision of more junior members of the data team.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Provide biostatistical consultation to neurology researchers to assist with study design, data collection and management, statistical methodology selection, data analyses, and data interpretation.
Design, build, and manage database systems for MS Center infrastructure and provide analytic reports for quality assurance and to drive process improvement.
Design, build, and manage large, complex, longitudinal databases for research projects.
Provide technical expertise in design and development of database applications to monitor research activities and process and maintain incoming data for research subjects.
Participate with the PI and other senior level management staff in the overall planning for the research group.
Assess information needs of investigators and design and implement computerized applications to meet needs.
Estimate sample size or power and assist in writing methods sections of research proposals, grant applications, and publications.
Perform data analyses using basic and advanced statistical tools.
Display data in graphs, figures and tables in publication quality format.
Act as a program reviewer and quality control checkpoint person for analyses others have conducted.
Derive variables in R, clean data, perform analyses on large complex datasets.
Perform database management.

Minimum Qualifications
Master's Degree in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or related quantitative field.
One-year related experience.
Demonstrated ability on significant graduate project or additional doctoral education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in data managing clinical trials preferred.
Experience working with REDCap is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate projects independently and work constructively as part of a team.
Familiarity with UNIX environment.
Outstanding quantitative skills and a strong interest in collaborative epidemiologic and biostatistical research.
